Career Experience

Recommended Posts

I'm playing career.

Bill, an engineer, had one star of XP and half a bar.

He took a mk1 pod and hitch-hiker to the Mun, rescued 2 separate kerbals one in high orbit, one in low. Both going counter direction around the Mun.

After 3 atmospheric breaking orbits, he brought them home .

They bot got a star and half a bar and Bill got nothing.

Now they are just as experienced as bill and all they did was get rescued.

Why no XP for bill?

All of my kerbs seem to get stuck on 1 star and half a bar of XP. no one has gained any more.

Not even Jeb.

Is this normal?

Kerbals get no xp for doing things they've already done.

So you can launch the same kerbal a thousand times to orbit and he will still stay at level 1.

Or you can send a kerbal to peek out of the kerbin SOI to get a quick kerbol orbit, go back in, plant a flag in minimus, go to the mun and plant another flag, then return him to kerbin and he will be at level 3 in just one launch.

You actually don't even have to land on the Mun, unless they changed the values from 0.90.

Orbit Mun, plant flag at Minmus, leave Kerbin's SOI, and return home to get level 3. That worked in the last version.

Happy landings!

So they only gain XP once per body? Future landings in different Munar biomes would not count for XP?

That is correct, it merely counts on a per-body basis, rather than per-biome. I believe you can see a list of what each kerbal's done in the Astronaut Training Centre to keep track.

While the Kerbal is already there, so you might as well plant the flag...you don't have to do so to hit Level 3. "Landed" experience counts even if the Kerbal never leaves his seat. As such, Orbit,Kerbin (2) + Land,Minmus (5.75) + Orbit,Sun (6) + Orbit,Mun (3) = 16.75 XP. Level 3 requires 16 XP. Planting a flag on Minmus would be 6.25 XP instead of 5.75, for a total of 17.25 XP instead. Still, every bit helps if you want to reach for that Level 4 (32 XP), I guess.
