Have the Dev's thought of a mobile version of KSP

Recommended Posts

I recall talk of one earlier in the development process, but I recall the devs saying something along the lines of they didn't see how they could port the game to be suitable for a touch interface without overly compromising the game.

This game is pretty cool and seems to be the closest thing to KSP on mobile. I am not sure if it is on Apple though. I have Android.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nooleus.android.spaceagency&hl=en_GB

i have that game, can confirm its very ksp like, you can build on existing space stations or build new ones, you can also ship oxygen and co2 scrubbers and such up to them. its a fictional solar system other then the earth and moon, the planets are very small though, theres a mars of sorts, alot of gas giants, and a moon of sorts for one thats kind of a very distant moon, all planets are immobile, you can recreate Apollo 11-17, build a giant space station, launch a mission to another planet, etc. i think you can land on some of the gas giants though, and you have to do the career mode to unlock pretty much all the parts except the small ones, but career is fun and challenging.

oh, and whenever you have a rocket starting with the saturn V first stage, the moon is visible when you first go to launch. :D

I was thinking this morning about possibly a smaller app that interfaces thru the network (phone on wifi, PC or mac on same) and could function as a multifunction control panel / display.

Think about it, toggles, even a joystick interface could possibly be implemented to send keystrokes and axis movements to the main program ...

Alas it's always easier to think about what could be done, than to actually code it :)

I think something like this exists already: Custom Control Pad

Looks like it hasn't been updated for 1.0 yet though.

As far as a mobile version of KSP goes, I can see a market for a simplified 2D spin-off along the lines of Space Agency or Simple Rockets. Full KSP doesn't really make sense for interface and performance reasons.

Technically, if you want to play mobile KSP you could get one of those cheap 7" or 8" windows tablets (HP has one for $100) and run it on there. I can't imagine that it would have all that great of performance, and a pure touch interface would be frustrating to play with (although I have seen some interface mods as well that put some basic controls on the screen).
