I might say "USSR - like environment" rather than Russia. Plus, maybe you should use a certain format? (MLA, APA, etc.)

Russia could be anything. Some people would think the current Russians. Well, most would. Some would think USSR. Others the Russian Empire. See what I mean?

It's okay, but I think you should bring up more evidence. Maybe some pictures showing the events happening? Then you could say, "As the reader can see..." or something like that.
