Kerbal launched into the sun, corrupted save

Recommended Posts

KSP: Current Steam version

I think I broke something pretty spectacularly. It certainly corrupted my campaign mode save file.

Scenario: I had landed a 4-Kerbal station on Minmus attempting to complete a contract. I realized that the contract required 5 kerbals, so I built a small RCS pod craft to fly down and dock with the base to complete the contract. After sucessfully docking and completing the contract I attempted to EVA the kerbal from the small pod craft, he bumped his head on the craft, clipped into a landing leg, then the screen went black. A contract completion came up congratulating me for doing a solar flyby, so I surmise the poor kerbal was launched into a solar orbit.

The altimeter display went blank, the UI was non-responsive, but I was able to use the escape menu to return to the space center. After the load, the usual aerial view of KSP was replaced with nothing but stars. The UI seems to work properly, but with no buildings to click on it's pretty much a corrupted save.

Looking at the KSP.log file, I was able to find the time when everything went wrong.

LOG 15:46:05.699] Contract (Build a new surface outpost on Minmus.): You have finished construction of a new surface outpost on Minmus.

The not a number error continues on for a long time, occasionally interrupted with

There's also a few entries of

[LOG 15:46:44.900] recalculating orbit for kerbalEVA (Henble Kerman): MinmusrPos: [NaN, NaN, NaN] rVel: [NaN, NaN, NaN] |NaN|

and a bunch of messages of my glorious Minmus base exploding. So something extremely bad happened.

A screenshot of the base just before disaster struck:

And a zip file of my save, if anyone wants to take a crack at figuring out what happened, or restoring it.
