Sepratron and explosions

With the new heat system Sepratrons can't be used without some thinking any more.

For example: decoupling 4 big and heavy boosters with Sepratrons will often result in an instant overheat and explosion of the center tank.

How do you usually tackle this problem (e.g. putting the Sepratrons on slighty sideways so that the center tank is not directly in the line of fire) or am I the only one experiencing such issues?

There's a superb, finely-crafted diagram here which may help.

Yes, this. I've had problems with sepratrons blowing up the center stage long before 1.0, so it's nothing new in that regard. They just need to be placed so that the exhaust misses your other fuel tanks.

BTW: Last time i had issues with an outer stage crippling my inner stages, and i didnt have sepatrons researched yet, i simply added another small tank outside towards the top of the outer stages, so that they would open somewhat, away from the center, at the top, after staging. Didnt look every elegant, but it worked.

It occurs to me we could save a lot of trouble by aiming the separatron exhaust at the part we want separated... just clip it inside the nosecone for a convenient self-destruct!

HA! man, I love this forum!

THis has been an issue for a long time, actually, it's just more noticeable now. For example, I've used sepatrons for self-destruct modes on my rockets before. Light all the engines on all the stages and ignite inward firing sepatrons on key root parts- boom..... BOOM-BOOM-boom BOOM-boom-boom-BOOM!!!.... :)

Easiest way to seperate boosters is to put a single (backwrads pointing) sepratron radially on the outside of the nosecone.

Or/and limit the fuel to the absolute minimum. Most of the selfdestruction occurs because those things are faaaaaaaaaaaar to strong, half a second burn is already more than enough for huge booster-sets.

There isn't to much point in using sepratons, though. The decoupler bug seems to be fixed (didn't occur for me a single time since i started).

Something that's worked well for me in 1.0 is to just put a small fin at the bottom of boosters on the outside. When I separate them, that fin adds a little bit of extra drag on that side which causes the top of the booster to rotate away from the center core as it falls
