Dynasoar inspired spaceplane

Recommended Posts

It was impossible to launch unless the spaceplane was wrapped up in a shell. All the lifting surfaces were playing havoc.

With a shell though it got up there fine. Loads of dV left and flying it back to the surface I found it actually flies incredibly well.

Just a question, did you happen to have your control surfaces activated during launch? Having them move while on the top of the rocket inside the atmo will make the rocket less balanced less balanced.
Yes, tried that. It was not the control surfaces that were the major problem but the lift of the Mk2 parts and the wings.

Maybe adding some SAS at some point in the rocket, or some hidden aerodynamic surfaces somewhere in the rocket, would give it more stability on launch

I posted the craft file. If you can get it to orbit without a shell then post back here.

Very cool! Hope you don't mind, I made a version that can can make orbit without the fairings:

I am using KJR but I think it's still reinforced enough to work without it. Even with the second stage deleted it still has enough delta-v left on orbit to fly to the Mun and back.

I can upload the craft file if it's OK (I'm still new here, don't know what the etiquette is for modifying other people's designs).
