I may not have the right stuff but I do have a fast F5/F9 finger...

Hi there! Bought KSP about two weeks ago in the post-1.0 sale and have been blown away by how incredible it is. I've already clocked over 100 hours on it (it's eating my life), have a career save with three orbital stations around Kerbin, Mun and Minmus, have landed unmanned probes on Duna and Ike and am gearing up for my first Duna mission when the transfer window opens up in just under a year.

I've been lurking on these quite spectacular forums for a fortnight, and have been experimenting with mods - mainly Kerbal Engineer Redux, KAC and RPM at the moment, though I've played with the USI mods and HGR.

So, yeah... hi!

Welcome fellow addict. Some helpful words of advice:

Eve . . . Eve is a hellhole. Avoid it. Landing is easy but returning to orbit is a feat of engineering and piloting that even some of the best of us have yet to do. Also, while Jool has a 'sea level', there is nothing down there but explosions and krakens.

As you've already discovered, this game is life-consuming. Going on 1200 hours myself.

Are your career mode orbital stations one-shotters or was there docking & orbital assembly involved?

Welcome! You've already surpassed my orbital and interplanetary acheivements. Nice work! *grits teeth and works on planes*

I have a hunch that you'll be a star in the Mission Control subforum.

Happy launching!

Thanks for the welcoming words, everyone!

Thanks for the advice! I'm about to fling some unmanned things at Gilly and Eve, but Eve does not sound like fun. Especially not the taking off bit. That might be beyond me for a bit. Going to post my Duna ship for critique shortly, I think.

Each station consists of at least five launches of varying weight, largest being 30t, smallest more like five - core/habitat, comms/power, science lab, docking hub and fuel/resupply. Rendezvous and docking were really daunting at first but now I really enjoy it. Each stationa lso has a crew ferry and Mun and Minmus have reusable landers bristling with science stuff (though one LV-909 for Mun isn't fun for descent and it might need a replacement). I've been cycling four crews through each station for XP in preparation for the Duna mission.

So much fun!

Planes, woah - that's one thing I just don't get. I feel ya - Gritting teeth definitely required when playing in the SPH!
