PPFX Highliting

Recommended Posts

OK, I could not find a place for this thread. Its about hardware, so space lounge seems right...but it's also about the game software, so space lounge doesn't work. Gameplay questions doesn't work cause its about hardware and about PPFX highlighting. Support doesn't work cause I'm not asking for support really, just some questions about PPFX highlighting and such. So i just threw it here for the mods to decide. Cause I'm really lost as to where this goes.

So, my question is, what hardware supports PPFX highlighting? I have a NVidia 330 graphics card with 1GB of VRAM, but I can't use PPFX highlighting because it has "no hardware support" well what hardware do support it? Cause my desktop couldn't do it either, even with its very modern8 Intel Integrated HD graphpics.

This is a strange one... I had mine supporting it, then suddenly it stopped working.

I think it's bugged.

Hmm. Did you actually see it working? Or did it just say it was supporting it? Cause default it says its working but then it realizes it can't and switches to grayed out and says "no hardware support"

Yeah, I had it highlighting stuff... then the next time I booted up KSP it had turned itself off.

EDIT:

It needs anti-aliasing enabled in KSP to work, other than that it's supposed to be just another "shader model 3" shader, and it seems to be unreliable on AMD or Intel drivers.

Ah. I turned Anti-aliasing off...

Oh........so it's actually not even "hardware support" at all.

So, if I got to settings, turn anti-aliasing on (and subsequently kill my frame rate) and also turn it on in my NVidia control panel (I have a custom set up for KSP with anti aliasing off) then I should be able to use the PPFX highliting?

Yeah should work, interestingly the Unity/KSP anti-aliasing doesn't even work on Linux but still needs to be on for PPFX to work, though it's causing a memory leak in the flight scene so you may not want to bother.

The stock PPFX highlighting is causing a memory leak? Darn, It looks so cool!

I see it got moved to suggestions and development discussions...guess that works. :P

I wonder if the next hotfix will fix the memory leak? I really wanna try this thing out, but I'm pressed for memory as it is... (4GB with desktop using 2GB by itself)

(also, you were talking about linux when you said memory leak, just to confirm, it causes a memory leak on windows right?)

As a user who's never actually gotten it to work, what does the PPFX highlighting actually do? :)

It highlights parts THROUGH OTHER PARTS. as is, it highlights the edge of the part in bright blue than can be seen through the entire ship. :)

It makes a coloured highlighted edge to the mesh it's applied to :)

Doh, ninja'd!

The leak is on all platforms.

Bummer. Well, thanks anyways! And if anyone find a fix (claw I'm looking at you) I will be grateful!
