How to pack away the Science bay for re-entry and Keep data

Recommended Posts

Probably a silly question but how do I keep the data from the science bay AND prepare it for re-entry. I cant pack it away without resetting it and losing the data. There must be something I'm missing.

Ah! Great question.

1. Take scientist on your science mission.

2. EVA.

3. Collect data from all instrumentations. The scientist is now carrying the data.

4. Store data in capsule.

5. De-orbit.

6. (optional) Get back inside the capsule!

You can fit one of each experiment (materials, goo etc) in a 2.5M service bay. this can easily be given a heatshield, Chuts etc and landed at Kerbin.

Should also be given a probe core, so you can control it the whole way down.

Thanks just a couple more questions

1. What do you mean "Store data in capsule"

2. Does this mean keeping data is impossible in a satalite? (no scientist)

An EVA Kerbal goes up to an experiment, right-clicks, and takes the data. Data is now in Kerbal's pockets. Kerbal has 2 options:

A. Board a capsule. As he goes in the door, he empties his pockets into the storage area of the capsule automatically.

or

B. Right-click on the capsulre and select "store data".

You can't move data around without an EVA Kerbal (unless you use something like the Crew Manifest mod, and that might even required a Kerbal aboard to work). So with probes, the data has to stay in the instruments unless you send a Kerbal to the probe to move it.
