Stage changes mid flight new or am I late to the party?

I was able to drag parts and whatnot when mid flight as I wanted my RATO to be used in the upper atmosphere instead of as RATO. I thought 'Hey that would be nice' and guess what, it actually worked. Am I late to the party and this is a feature that I just never noticed or is it new in the latest patch? I wish there was a place for discussion besides GD for this sort of thing but alas there isn\'t. If I am simply late to the party, feel free to lock this thread.

This is new to me. It works out well to set your command pod to the bottom of your stack if when something goes wrong.

Its been around a while, but its not a feature people think about, so next to no one knows about it. I only found out about it in 0.14, but have tested it in 0.13

EDIT : Works in 0.9, so its isn\'t very new.

Ahh alright, mods if you read this mind locking it? I wish this was displayed somewhere as it is great for an easy abort with an escape tower, just gotta drag things around quickily.

Does this work if you drag things to the active stage? For me, they seem to never activate then...
