I'm having trouble installing mods

I can't install any mods I tried very popular mods ike MechJeb and KAX. What am I doing wrong?

I installed it in C:\Program Files (86x)\Steam\steamapps\common\kerbal space program\Game Data

My System specs:

What procedure are you following to install the mods? And what exactly does "can't install" mean? Are the mods not showing up in your game, or is there some other problem?
