My craft design is inspired by the game XCOM : Enemy Unknown. Its name is the Skyranger. If you don't know this game, it's a transport plane to carry a commando (4-6 soldiers or 6-12 in long war mod) to alien positions.

It is a 6 V-engines (impossible to do with less than that) and 5 Horizontal-engines VTOL

It is quite heavy so it takes some times to V-take off

Launch procedure :

SAS on

RCS on (optional)

Brakes on

Full throttle

Numpad 1

Slow liftoff at 100kN per engine

Gears up

Vertical to Horizontal procedure :

Reach 250m altitude

Brakes off

Numpad 2

RCS off

Reach 100m/s speed

Numpad 1

Half Throttle (150m/s cruise speed)

Vertical landing procedure :

Low throttle

Pitch 0°, Roll 0°

Brakes on

Numpad 2

Numpad 1

RCS on

Gears down

Half throttle

Kill horizontal speed by pitching up to 10°

Pitch 0°

Reduce vertical speed to 10m/s

Hope you'll like it !

Also, welcome to the forums! That's not a bad craft! Here's some rep.

Thanks !

I am missing some parts to make it better though :

2.5m flat air intakes

2.5m liquid fuel engine

Back cargo door

Small lights

Do you have any improvements ideas ?

Hey guys !

This is the Mk. 2 version of my XCOM Skyranger craft.

It is now heavier so I put two more engines (8 now) to liftoff vertically.

The whole V-engines bay is now more compact and look less goofy now.

I changed the upper air intakes because it is more realistic.

More monopropellant for RCS port and oxidizer for vernor engines

More balance, without RCS, it really works well.

2 front lights (Red, Blue) and 2 V-engines lights

All the back engines are now the same J-33 basic jet engine

Have fun !

Peter
