Fuel depot contracts make sense, and will likely make your next mission easier if you use the fuel contained in the depot.

I frequently build orbital stations containing lots of fuel so I can refuel docked spaceships later on. (I don't see much point in a surface outpost having more fuel than was needed to land it, though.)

Well, they *can* be useful.... you may know that lunar surface rendevous was considered when planning apollo.

It could be useful to have a fuel depot on the surface, for refueling landers and such.... but then that also requires a fuel truck, and precisely aligned docking ports, or the claw.

Generally.... not very useful, and far inferior to an orbital depot

Now that I have space planes in career, my next step is a fuel depot so I can stockpile surplus fuel. Plus I'm transitioning to purpose built multi mission orbital tugs. Them bad boys need refueling.
