Tourist contracts failed?

Recommended Posts

I have a tourist contract "failed" message after I landed on the mun. It was three tourist contracts, one tourist needed a Mun landing, the others needed to go to various other places. Is this a bug, has the contract really failed or can I still complete them?

No, the contracts are still listed as active when I look them up in the mission office, but they seem to have triggered a wrong flag when I set down on Mun instead of Kerbin and they show red "failed" markes in my UI.

Should I reload or do I have to try out what happens because nobody has yet encountered this kind of bug?

I routinely take tourists to places they didn't ask to go. E.g. a group of 4 who want different combinations of Kerbin, Mun, and Minimus. I do a single trip with all 4 in a hitchhiker can, and it doesn't matter that some get an unrequested visit to an extra place. All that matters is expiry time for the contract, and getting all of the tourists safely round their preferred places then back to Kerbin, as far as I know.

I'd bet on one of the following:

  • Time expired.
  • The message was actually about a different contract.
  • Some mod is interfering with the contract.

Could be something else though, could even be an obscure stock bug.

Do you have any mods installed?

Did you get an actual "Failed" message (like you do when contracts are completed)? And is the contract no longer listed in the "active contracts" tab? If so, then that sounds like a bug. Otherwise, if it's just a red x next to "Landed on Minmus" or something like that in the in-flight contract window, then that's probably just indicating that the person is currently on the wrong planetary body currently and when you take them to the correct one I imagine it will still work (after all, the contract is still active, meaning you haven't failed it). But I haven't done enough tourist contracts to know for sure.

If you brought them back to Kerbin (or even hit the Mun too hard), you can easily kill kerbals in the hitchhiker container. Use landing legs and plenty of parachutes (and/or retro rockets).

I've seen Jeb drop from thirty kilometers, land on his face, then get up and smile.

To land hard enough to kill kerbals on the mun, you'd have to land hard enough to destroy the ship.

If they're wearing their miraculum helmets, you'd have to hit it hard enough to leave a crater.

Jeb is made out of ChuckNorrisite, the strongest, meanest material in the known universe.

I accepted the "take one tourist to asteroid", and it fails as soon as I go to any other screen with time other than main. For example tracking station, or pressing launch for a vessel with the tourist already in it. (From VAB, tourist is not deployed somewhere, he is safely in the roster.)

Originally I thought it is because I didn't have unowned object tracking unlocked, but it seems that that is not the reason. How do I edit my save to unfail that mission, so I can further investigate?

In logs it just says mission failed, is there a place I can see which clause of the mission definition was failed?

Edit: This happened with Tourism Plus, irrelevant to solving this thread.

The original thread was about stock Tourist contracts, but this response is about Tourism Plus - responded on the proper thread here.
