bigger heatshields?

are there any bigger or scaleable/inflatable heatshields for the new reentry model? or would it be possible to simply take the DRE parts but without the plugin?

You could MM just about anything into a heat shield if you were so inclined

Tweakscale works on at least some of the existing heatshields. I can't recall if I applied it to one of the stock heatshields or one included with the SpaceY mod, but that's how I got the 10m heatshield I used with a lander using a Behemoth 10m tank as a base. It worked, though there was no ablation. Total landed mass was about 125 tonnes back to Kerbin.
