How to change the mission flag outside of VAB?

I know how to do it via save editing, but is there an easier way? With the new mod Historian there's a need to assign flags to already active vessels for better screenshots.

In space centre view, click the flag pole outside the astronaut complex (it has a very small hot spot for clicking). That lets you change the default flag for all new missions.

Changing flag using the flag pole only changes the flag for future missions.

If you want to change the flag of your already-launched vessels, you'll still have to edit your persistant.sfs file and replace all lines:

flag = Squad/Flags/[name of your current flag]

by:

flag = Squad/Flags/[name of your new flag]
