I purchased Kerbal Space Program from an Amazon digital download. Would there be any way to turn the version I have into the Steam version?

No.

If you want KSP on Steam instead of Amazon, you need to get a refund from Amazon and buy KSP on Steam.

Yeah it's a new thing with the 1.0 release, and so far it's been a bit of a problem, Amazon doesn't handle updates, at all, no patches, nothing, you're expected to get any updates from the developer.

But of course, Squad doesn't provide patches in the usual way.

Amazon is fine if you want a toaster, but for games and movies? Nah.

Of course, movies and TV shows don't update, you won't find Friends s4e7 1.1 patch for example.
