Windows 8; game insta-crash every 20-30 min randomly; growing more frequent

First of all I just started a fresh game 2 nights ago so its a brand new career file. (I started it because my previous saves were glitched out from the previous game versions;.

Yea. So its been freezing randomly every half hour. The last time came only 10 min after the previous. Some of them report errors, some not, but they all end the same, and it does not matter what I am doing. They have been increasing in frequency and although it seems to save the moment it crashes its becoming so frequent its unplayable; not even enough time to land my craft from a low orbit

I run windows 8.0

8gb ram

i5 4690k OC watercooled to 4.25mhz

2gb 6950 AMD GPU

Let me know if anymore info is needed. This is really a pain in the ass as ive been playing all through the night:confused: and it didn't used to be like this earlier. I have done nothing potentially game breaking or out of the ordinary to the best of my knowledge.

You mentioned landing from low orbit....

did it happen to heat up during reentry? there is a memory leak with the heat indicators. They can be disabled with F10.

If not I have no idea. I hope someone else can help!

You're correct Endersmens. After many (unhappy) testing, I do believe that is what was wrong! You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

You can also work around the issue by disabling PPFX since it's not the gauges themselves, but the part highlighting that causes the leak.

All this time...i thought it was the gauges....

I've been using F10 to quickly view the gauges and then turning them off for a long time now, and I've had PPFX off the whole time. XD

funny thing is I just now turned on PPFX cause I figured out why it wasn't working. Well, guess I'll just continue double clicking F10.

Huh? I have PPFX disabled automatically but I still have the edge highlighting due to the heat stuff, which seems to get stuck sometimes.

I'll just link this here in case anyone looks, the pre-PPFX glow still works, and doesn't flash annoyingly, I actually prefer it

This memory leak will be (and has been) the death of me and is the reason why Jebediah is currently dead. I cant remember 100% of the time to press F10 for each flight! This needs fixing very soon

Right on brother! Hours trying to get back from Duna wasted upon re-entry. Known problems should be fixed. Get rid of temp gauges until it is fixed.
