Glory Hounds and rescue vessels

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sick of having to kick a kerbal (usually Jeb, you know how he is, never wants to let anybody else fly...) out of the capsule every time I go to send up a rescue mission. Would it be reasonable to have a flag somewhere basically saying "don't put kerbals in this craft/part!" or the like? It would be handy for vessels made to go up unmanned...

Since you're trying to launch an unmanned vessel you probably have a probe core on it. Right? Build your rocket STARTING with the probe core instead of a capsule and the capsule will stay empty by default.

Usually I just have a capsule with MechJeb slapped on the side, and MechJeb can't be the first part.

However, I've found if you edit the crew in the VAB and clear all the seats, that *usually* sticks. Not always, which is clearly a bug.

There are ModuleManager patches that automatically add the MechJeb PartModules to all probes and command pods, making Tex_NL's suggestion viable.

That may be viable later, but my current method for probe core functionality is to use a subassembly (HECS, Mechjeb, the smallest inline battery all in a service bay) and attach it to something. 4 parts in an easy package, but you can't start with that as root...
