Extreme docking

After many tries, I've managed to dock 2 ships on the surface with upward facing ports, that only have prograde rockets: meaning if either one is upside down, it accelerates down even with RCS fighting it. Here is how to perform the maneuver:

STEP 1: Bring yourself to a hover above the target.

STEP 2: Line yourself up above the target.

STEP 3: Accelerate upwards and do the flip of no return.

STEP 4: Perform any final adjustments with haste, as you pick up speed towards your target.

STEP 5: Once you land on your target, you may have to wiggle around a bit to get the docking ports to mate, and if you don't knock everything over, success!

STEP F9: Somewhere between step 1 and 5

nice... i did the same on Minmus, but not on the Mun yet (i don't go there a lot). next extreme docking i want to do is dock two vessels in a low suborbital trajectory over Minmus or Mun ;)

Suborbital docking is only extreme when there's real consequences . . . like trying to save your failed tylo lander before Jeb pancakes.

It would be cool to have one of the ships without any crew or power so you have to try and save it before it crashes.

I did this over the Mun once. Tried to get my lander ascent stage into a higher orbit than it was capable of, managed to bring the (thankfully overbuilt) CSM onto a rendezvous trajectory and scooped up the lander just in time. I think I passed a couple of hundred meters over the terrain at the lowest point...
