Val... I didn't mean it

The mouse slipped!

Would it really be that hard to have a "terminate all debris" button in the tracking station? Or at least have a picture of a kerbal on the vessel item in the list (for vessels that have crew on board)? This kind of senseless killing must stop.

Valentina's KIA and I blame Squad. I hope they can love with themselves, for I am consumed with guilt.

She will be remembered (until I accidentally murder another valiant space hero).

Seeing as how debris on rails doesn't have a massive impact on performance unless you get into the dozens, I think it's OCD that has claimed another :P

I admit it, you're right.

I dream of the day when those who suffer from Kessler Syndrome can shrug off this terrible stigma and hurtle into orbit with aplomb and without fear of smacking into bits of someone else's leftover solar panels.

Until that day I will stand fast.

Val was listed as "debris"??? I think you need to install Claw's Stock Bug Fixes mod.

As for capsules and other such components which contain crew which get turned into debris, I agree - they shouldn't be considered debris while 'occupied'. I had that happen in v0.90, and had to go hunt through the debris for the part containing the lost crew (which I later recovered).

Val was listed as "debris"?

I'm in mourning. Distraught with loss, have you no tact?

*fights through the tears*

No, I was listing everything all at once and I got click happy. It takes about 3 feet of mouse travel to get rid of each bit of debris. Val (RIP) and her ship was nestled among the spent poodles and soiled docking ports and suggestively shaped bits of fairing.

'tis a grim way to go.

In other news, there's now a spare bunk in the Astronaut Complex.

I had a mountain landing where a couple hitch-hiker containers in a cargo bay were not included when I recovered the vessel

When I went to the tracking station it had the same vessel name I had just recovered as well as a debris.

I went to check what was going on and it was the hitchhiker containers(with my soon to be level 3 scientists and engineers) starting to roll down the side of a mountain.

As such I suspect that occupied vehicles do not count as debris, at least in some cases.(the actual debris was a reaction wheel part that was also in the cargo bay)

Recently I've been experimenting with the challenge of manually removing low orbit debris rather than using the big red X in the tracking station. I've got a small two-seater orbital skiff with a rear-facing harpoon gun that I call the H-Wing. It rendezvous with a piece of debris, snags it with the harpoon, tows it into a suborbital trajectory, detaches, and speeds itself up until it's in orbit again. Works remarkably well; I've gone from over 30 pieces of debris in low orbit to just 14. Soon the nearby skies will be clear of everything except Starbridge Station and the H-Wing Supply Depot (with extra fuel, spare harpoons, demolition charges, etc).

You might be able to miraculously find/reviver her! (If it helps mentally, think of this process as a something like the upcoming movie The Martian.)

Browse your KSP local files, in the folder "saves" and then navigate to the subfolder specific to the instance of the game your are playing (same name that you click on when the game starts and you click on a particular saved game).

In that folder you should see a file called "persistent.sfs." Open that folder with notepad.

Find the section called "ROSTER"

There you should see all your kerbals. You might notice that in Valentina's entry, there is a line that says something like, "state = Dead" or "Missing" or some such.

Change that line to

"state = Available"

such as is the case with your other available kerbals.
