Load folder no accessable.

Recommended Posts

I am unsure as to what has happened in/to my game. :(

When I open the game and go to either the VAB or SPH I can not bring a craft out of said 'Load' tab option. I also cannot 'Save' new craft to said tab option.

The files are still within the correct places when I look into the files.

Please, help.

Much cheers t all.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "I can not bring a craft out of said 'Load' tab option." Do you mean that when you click on "Load" nothing happens?

It might help if you can upload a log file. Or, at the least, try opening the debug log by pressing ALT+F2 while you try to load/save a ship and see if it's throwing errors.

Often times when something like this happens, it's either because the folders are set to read only, or because KSP has been installed to somewhere like the desktop, program files, or documents directory. Windows will sometimes mess up the game when that happens.

Cheers,

When I open the game and open the 'Alt-F12' debug menu. Clicking on the yellow 'Folder' tab produces this message.

[Exception]: DirectoryNotFoundException: Directory 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\Ships\SPH' not found.

A corrupted something?

Get KSP out of your "Program Files" directory, Windows is messing with the files. You'll need to either install a fresh copy, or "copy and paste" the directory out. Do NOT use move or "cut and paste" because Windows will keep track of the files (and still cause problems). Common install places would be someplace like C:\Games\KSP. Avoid the desktop, Program Files, or the Documents directories.

If you have any saves that you want to keep, you can copy those over separately once you create the new install.

Hey Claw, while that's definitely an issue when purchasing the game from the KSP website, it isn't for Steam installations.

That folder should definitely exist. You can have Steam verify your installation by right-clicking KSP in Steam, selecting Properties. Go to the Local Files tab and hit the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" button.

Can you access the ships from the launchpad? like, click on the launchpad, select a ship and instead of clicking the launch button, click the edit button, it should switch to the VAB and the craft should load nicely.

It happened to me. This could mean you have a corrupt craft file in the folder. Open the VAB or SPH folder with windows explorer, check for any "0 kb" file and delete it. It should do it. If it still does not work do this:

1-in windows explorer empty the contents of VAB and SPH folders (save a copy of the files somewhere else!!!!!)

2-in KSP, create a new ship in the VAB (a simple thing with stock parts only: like Mk1 command pod alone) ; save it and click New.

3-leave VAB, reenter it, click Load and check if you can load the craft correctly: it should work.

4-then in windows explorer, put one of the craft files back in its folder, then in KSP try to load it in the VAB (I don't think you need to restart KSP for that, just alt-tab between KSP and Windows). If ok, repeat this step with the next craft file.

5-your "not loading" problem will reappear with the corrupted file... delete it and the problem should be solved. For safety, keep doing step 4 with all the other files, in case there is another corrupted one. Do it too with SPH folder.

Happened to me a few month ago... kudos to whoever found the correction.

Hey Claw, while that's definitely an issue when purchasing the game from the KSP website, it isn't for Steam installations.

You are very correct. That's my fault for jumping the gun and not noticing the word "steam" in there.

The real fact of the matter appears that the stock craft folders are not there, rather than any problems in the save directory. Likely, if you manually add those directories, it will work. Also, steam installs have (on occasion) messed up file permission settings.

Thanks for the point out.

Update; :D

So.. went through and 'backed up' all my ship files. Made both complete copies in their seperate, designated folders as well as a seperate folder again with simply everything cut and pasted into it.

Game still throwing the issue. Can load ship onto the pad and then into the VAB... Can't use the load tab in the VAB or SPH for anything.

Am now in process of uninstalling complete game and re-installing (Yes, game files saved into different folder etc)

When installing new game... No option for install directory. There seems to be a 'default' style thing where it's going to put it into 'Program files'?

If this is the issue... how to change?

Update:

Game re-installed... All working.

How does one put their 'Back up' back into the game?

Can't find the "Save game" folders.

Update: Found the "Save game" folders. Am now in process of veeerrrry slowly putting things back into said folders.....

So far, so good. :D

Thanking every one for all their help!
