Challenge: Build a space station around Kerbol

Recommended Posts

Build a space station in a low Kerbol orbit, in a low orbit around the sun. The station should have at least 3 modules that are all seperately launched, each one with a different rocket design. All these launches are to be unmanned, as your 4th launch will get the 1st crew to the station. Then launch your 5th and final rocket with your second crew. After the second crew arrived at the station, return the first crew to kerbin and leave enough fuel at the station to rturn the second crew too. Upload photos of your station and of this challenge if you want, I'd love to see many great stations ;) Or make a youtube video, that would be even better :D

Usually, the one who proposes a challenge submits his own attempt too.

Haha I see :D But they haven't been built for this challenge in low Kerbol orbit... ;)

I'm working on this space station now. I think I have found a glitch in the system that I'm not telling you about

Well, thanks :P Just show us the station when you're done, I think we'd all love to see it ;)

You might want to come up with:

*List of mods allowed

*Some kind of scoring

--crew capacity

--fuel capacity

--power generation

--launch vehicle size

--orbit specs (AP, PE)

--etc

*Badge

Crew capacity: 5

Mods allowed: None, except Kerbal alarm clock and mechjeb

I don't care about the power generation, neither do i care about the launch vehicle size.

The orbital specs are unimportant too, as long as the biome is "space near Kerbol"

You can calculate how much fuel you need, right?

That's it, that's the rules. Enjoy ;)

This just doesn't have any challenge to it and it feels like just another contract that doesn't pay any Kredits. Most people would meet these requirements with little effort.

for example;

The challenge is to build a sustainable colony in space.

You get 1 point for every Kerbal (each kerbal requires 5e/s and 500e storage capacity) all living quarters must have artificial gravity (9.82 m/s*s) and no Kerbels are allowed to live in command modules.

You are limited to 5 launches

You lose 1 point for every 100,000 Kredits spent

If your Colony requires monoprop for starting stopping artificial gravity for docking purposes you need enough spare for 200 docks

Orbit is required to be 'low Kerbol'

If you manage a positive score you can apply this TBD badge to you signature.

This sounds like a much better challenge tbh.

i also like nich's idea, although i'm pretty sure gravity is -9.81 m/s^2 not 9.82 :D

although how would we create artificial gravity? rotation?

artificial gravity? sounds scary!

Gravity is a vector and I do not like to use negative vectors as it makes cos() and sin() calcs very confusing :P

And yes rotation at a specified rate depending on the distance from the COM
