  1. I totally agree. We shouldnt try and force planes to look like real fighter planes, but we do need rules to keep things competitive. You're very good at finding holes in the rules that allow unconventional designs to dominate, but this spirit of this challenge is elegant design not exploiting glitches in KSP's physics engine. So far we've found movable turrets, SAS, and excessive clipping to be overpowered and have banned them. I vote for banning rcs (this is a fighter plane challenge) and setting a maximum number active control surfaces per plane. I think that will prevent control surface spamming, while leaving room for creative designs. I think 8 control surfaces is reasonable. This would allow: 2 rudders 2 elevators 2 canards 2 ailerons or 3 rudders 4 elevons 1 elevator
  2. This is probably irrelevant now, but whatever: Revised Statistics: 79 parts 12.5 tons Point Calculation: 1 x GAU-8 "Avenger" Cannon: 1 x 11 = 11 points 1 x 30mm Ammunition Storage: 1 x 4 = 4 points 6 x "Sidewinder" missiles: 6 x 4 = 24 points 4 x Countermeasure Pods: 4 x 5 = 20 points Total: 59 points In my testing, it so far has a 100% winrate versus all designs it has faced, including the XMF-1B; hopefully I can enter it in the next tournament. Craft File That's a helluva plane. Went 4-1 against the Hobgoblin. You've definitely raised the bar. I'm going to have to start fresh with a brand new air-frame to try and beat it.
  3. No. No one else is doing what you're doing, and if they are, it's not allowed. None of the .craft I've downloaded since we started running these fights have had more than minor clipping. Heres a vid if anyone is curious.
  4. If i were running the tourney I'd DQ you, but its up to Pixel to decide what he'll allow in his tourney. You have your tail planes clipped inside your engines, and 2 fuel tanks clipped into each other and clipped inside your cockpit. There's a difference between clipping the edges of wings together so there's no gap, and what you're doing
  5. You get the benefit of the parts you are clipping, without increasing your target size. There are also benefits to drag reduction as well as making it easier to balance COM, COL, and COT. If we allow clipping we're going to end up with planes the size of a fuel tank with everything clipped inside. - - - Updated - - - If you clip your engines into each other and one gets shot off, your center of thrust remains unchanged, and you can keep on flying with slightly reduced thrust, if they are placed legitimately, and one gets shot out, you get reduced thrust, and you have to deal with your thrust being unbalanced. The spirit of this challenge is well designed aircraft, not who can exploit game mechanics the best.
  6. Its hard to judge, but there's a difference between clipping for looks and clipping to cheat.
  7. A small nitpick, my plane is the Hobgoblin, not the Hobogoblin
  8. It depends on how you start the fight. If you start them close together, the plane that turns to fight first has a huge advantage. If you start them spread a kilometer apart, then it doesn't seem to make much difference.
  9. It might take a while, depending on how many entrants there are. When I ran the tourney last week it took me a good 8 hours to run all the battles, upload all the videos, and post the results.
  10. I added a cargo bay to my C-77 Continuity. I used it to complete a non-stop triple circumnavigation, so you should have plenty of fuel to fly it anywhere on Kerbin, drop the payload, and fly home. [i already increased the brake torque in the .craft. It usually lands empty, but with the short trip it needed more stopping power to slow all that extra fuel down.] Here is the .craft. It's all stock except for a mechjeb module. (It will fly perfectly fine without mechjeb) http://pastebin.com/sVfLwGV6
  11. Could he run one of each? It is 2v2 after all I guess its up to Pixel for this tourney.
  12. After Pixels tournament is over, I'm thinking of running a "flyweight" tournament. The Mighty Mouse was my best fighter for a while, but it's lack of durability makes it lag behind my larger planes.
  13. Here is my official Pixel Tournament submission. The final evolution of the Goblin series, The Hobgoblin. Hobgoblin Specs: Parts: 61 Mass: 13.6 t at take off (9.9 t empty) Length: 10 m Wingspan:10.1 m Armaments: GAU-8 X1 (11 points) 30mm Ammo X1 (4 points) Sidewinder X6 (24 points) Cm pod X4 (20 points) 59 points total Craft File here: http://pastebin.com/aNc5wiur
  14. Have you tried the stock aero since 1.0? its nothing like it used to be. FAR is too much simulation for me. I get bored spending 30 minutes moving around radially attached nosecones to get a better drag profile.
  15. I forgot to mention that in the OP *fixed* Make sure your plane has a weapon manager installed (its part of the BD Armory mod - everything for that is under the utilities tab). As long as your set to "team B" in the weapon manager they will attack you Don't turn on guard mode unless you want the AI to fire weapons for you. I thought this challenge died on take off. I'm glad to see some interest in it. - - - Updated - - - Save them with kerbal love XD
  16. Hey, nice thread! I cant host a tourney this Sunday, but I should be able to later in the week. It sounds like PixelStory might host this time, so that will be good. I'd also like to add my vote for adding Quiztech, I've played around with it and none of the engines seem OP, and the rest of the parts are pretty much just for looks. B9 wings are OP. They add like 4 times more lift than the same shaped stock wing. Pwings was recently updated, but I havent tested it for balance: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/130196-1-0-4-Procedural-Dynamics-Procedural-Wing-v0-10-0-30-July Here is the latest version of the Goblin if someone decides to run a tourney before I get a chance to check back: http://pastebin.com/ZqeYn6Xd
  17. That actually happened in one of the tournament videos, but i don't remember which one
  18. oops, accidentally closed the window before it was done uploading, it'll be up in a minute. I've got to go, but I'll run a skirmish with your new design tonight or tomorrow:kiss:
  19. I sometimes get glitches with control surfaces moving the wrong way when I do that. Your old worthless Blizzard gave my Goblin a hell of a fight. I need more ammo, and you need another CM pod
  20. This is how I start the matches with hyperedit for those who asked: Sounds reasonable to me.
  21. Reaction wheels should be banned also. They're stupid OP. Ohh well, lessons for the next tourney.
