  1. I'll kick this one off. I achieved a top speed of 1,254 m/s in a stock jet powered by a single turbo jet. The only mod i used was mechjeb to keep my craft level at high speed. Aircraft Specs: name: "eggsploder" parts: 13 weight: 5.2 t length: 10.7 wingspan: 9.0
  2. If you look close you can see I have 2 reaction wheels stacked at the back of the plane. They are strong enough to turn the plane even when its not rolling forward. Cheap? Yes. Cheating, I don't think so.
  3. This plane is kinda ugly, but its stupid fast. I was able to complete the challenge in 3:43 3:34. Hello Platinum [apologies for the strange audio at the end, I had autoplay running on youtube] Aircraft Specs: name: "Puddle Jumper" parts: 16 weight: 4.8 t length: 6.5 m wingspan: 4.5 m http://pastebin.com/aPfhH68a UPDATE: Dropped the elevons completely and abused the power of reaction wheels. Got a complete lap in 3:34
  4. Nice run Trio, your first plane looks a lot cooler tho I think you're supposed to land on the KSC runway from the other direction. Can you clarify Avetho? Also, I hate to be nit-picky, but are those tail planes okay? From the OP I was under the impression you couldn't have them angled like that, they were supposed to be mostly straight up and down. Anyway, this is my submission: Challenge Stats: Time: 5:34 Aircraft Specs: name: "I cant X-plane" parts: 19 weight: 7.2 t length: 9.8 m wingspan: 9.9 m http://pastebin.com/J9qfz0a9
  5. Can you clarify this? Isnt an elevator and a tail fin with a control surface the same thing? Also: lol @ that 10/10 landing
  6. The flight I recorded was pretty ugly, I was having some stability issues due to poor fuel balancing and excessive drag from the dual intakes mounted at the tip of the craft causing some tumbling. The test flight immediately before went smooth as butter, but of course as soon as the cameras start rolling everything goes wrong. Regardless, the mission was successful despite the dodgy aerodynamics. Aircraft Specs: name: "Cheepsk8" powerplant: single RAPIER parts: 18 mass: 8.8 t length: 9.5 m wingspan: 5.5 m http://pastebin.com/bTHfsbrA Mission Performance: Cost at takeoff: √14,998 Recovered value: √14,039 Fuel Deilvered: 200 units total Efficiency: 4.795 √/unit
  7. Wow! This challenge was a lot harder than I thought it would be! Nothing record breaking here, but I'm satisfied to have finally completed the challenge after 20+ attempts. Challenge stats: Time: 2:19 Max Alt: 139 m Max Speed: 331 m/s "Delta Dart" Craft info: â–º100% Stock â–ºtwin wheesley jet engines â–º20 parts â–º7.0 tons â–ºLength: 11 m â–ºWingspan: 8.4 m
  8. Here is my submission: "Dayman" 17 parts 9.46 tons at take off Powered by a single RAPIER Take off and landing from the KSC runway I ended up landing with plenty of extra fuel. Cheers!
  9. Okay, I made and entirely new design. Almost made 3 trips around Kerbin, but I ran out of fuel with 500km to go and was forced to land 350km from KSC. Ohh well, I'm still pretty happy with how far I made it. "The Moonstar" is a twin turbojet plane with room for 2 passengers. Takeoff Weight: 20.7 tons Part Count: 20 Wingspan: 11.5 m Length: 15.3 m Fuel Capacity: 2380 units I followed the equator retrograde [270°], 2 complete circumnavigations. Total Mission Time: 3 hours, 3minutes, 3 seconds [03:03:03] Ground Distance Traveled: 10,266,369 m Highest Altitude: 25,112 m
  10. I didnt see anything about requiring a pilot anywhere :3 I guess I'll have to try again and bring Jeb along for the ride. Ohh well.
  11. Here is my submission. I give you the "Micro Mini": 4.03 tons at launch 11 parts Rapier Engine Flown in version 1.0.2
  12. I'm going to go ahead and submit now, but I might make an attempt at 2 circumnavigations later. I think I can make it with a few tweaks and a little more fuel. I used "Speed 13" a single turbojet drone that weighs 5.1 tons at takeoff and uses 15 parts (craft file here http://pastebin.com/X7JgMtty ). I followed the equator (90°) and cruised full throttle at ~23,000 meters. I performed a manual take off and landing, but I let mechjeb handle the tedious hour of cruise. I was able to finish in 1 hour 6 minutes and 6 seconds [1:06:06] and I went through 360 units of fuel. Overall it was a fun challenge, and I look forward to seeing all the interesting designs people come up with. Cheers!
  13. This is my first forum post. I made an account for this challenge. :^) I tried several different designs, but my best time was 12:37 with a fuel use of 96. I used mechjeb to cruise the whole way at an altitude of 22,000 m. The vessel is an unmanned probe named "Speed 10" (original I know). Its composed of 14 parts and weighs 3.8 tons at launch. The craft file is available here: http://pastebin.com/YipRWqBA
