Games Lag?

Hello everyone, I got onto my computer at one point and tried to play KSP and some other games, and they are all lagging, considerable enough to make the game hard to play. I do not know why this is, does anyone have any ideas, before it was not like this! Thank you!

Lack of computing power ? (KSP is RAM-hungry AFAIK, maybe the other games busted the rest)

Or tell us the other games it goes with, also your computer's specification. The state of your ksp save might helps a bit (saves with more craft and parts tend to be heavier).

Perhaps there are some background programs running updates?

Downloads you started yourself?

Did you recently install a program that is running in the background? (those cost RAM)

It's also a good idea to check if your harddrive is in need of a defrag and run it if so.

Were they lagging before? If not, then something has changed. Either software or hardware not doing what it should.

When did it change, and what PC/Laptop do you have?

It seems to be less laggy now, so overall better, and here are my specs.

Intel Core i7 CPU Q740 1.73 GHz

8 GB RAM

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

I try to keep my part count low to avoid any lag, it's a habit from playing KSP on Linux using Wine.

Is your rig in "High Performance" mode?

That is usually the problem in my case. Also, if it is a laptop, unplugging the charging cord and then plugging it back in may work, as it does for me.

I will try that, and I believe it is, I should lower the settings.

If the problems persists you might want to monitor GPU and CPU usage. In 90% of the cases either one is to blame, though that might be a symptom of some kind of underlying problem.

I had a lot of lag problems a few months back which turned out to be my antivirus running scans while I tried to play - scans that were scheduled to occur hours or days earlier.

Scans don't continue in sleep mode, and they sure as heck won't START while asleep either. So my scans scheduled for Tuesday early AM were pushed back until the weekend when I finally used the computer. I guess my KSP playstyle includes just enough idle time to make the AV think it's in "light" use. Check and see if it's something like that going on.

I fixed mine by scheduling a task to auto-wake the computer for the duration of the scheduled scan.

get Spyware Hunter and malware Bytes anti malware... you probably have what I had a while back... these spies or malware REALLY eat up system resources....

I found out the problem, I cleaned the cooling vents and I also switched the battery mode! Thank you!
