Spaceplane = boat

Hi again!

This time I was experimenting with planes and I found out that if you go slowly enough into the water, you can float on it and move with a engine. But, when the engine gets hot (higher throttle), the water splashes around as if it\'s steaming.

Brakes won\'t work (obviously). It\'s VERY hard to move with an engine than if it was on land. Only tested with jet engines.

EDIT: when at almost full throttle, it does sound like the engine is choking on water, I guess it is since we\'re moving so slowly... Also, the engine doesn\'t overheat as bad.

That\'s a common issue for ships but they have been overcome, i think surface wise aircraft carriers have been made, as for subs i know some underwater exploration have been undertaken but it is extremely difficult without cheat parts.

There was a nuclear submarine mod that would let you move around at decent speed on and under water, but it was so overpowered that I managed to land that submarine on the Mun once.

Is the water denser than it used to be?

A long time ago before the terrain change I was able to make a very simple boat and it went across the water fairly fast. Atleast 100 m/s

Now I can\'t even go above 8 m/s with 3x the engines.

I saw this thread and started thinking 'I know, a rocket powered pontoon boat!'

Before getting to the water, there are structural pylons with wheels, but they\'re blown as unnecessary weight once the pontoons are wet.

Fun little design, I\'ll have to work on it tomorrow and see what it can do. I think the low mass and rigidity of the structural fuselage lends itself perfectly to catamaran building.

They look like spaceplane fuselage/fuel bits with cockpit nosecones stuck on the end, also a huge quantity of RCS nozzles.

I tried the design without the RCS nozzles.

Tipped over when turning at high speeds.

At least I can salvage my parts from the other pontoon ship that crashed!
