[cb_co] F-16 Fighting Falcon MRK II

The F-16 is a superb dogfighting craft. While not as fast as my F-22, this craft still hauls and is extremely maneuverable. This in addition it's small size makes it extremely effective in air-to-air combat. I've decided not to outfit this craft with radar to save weight. But it is so maneuverable that it is still incredibly deadly without it.

Synchronized Takeoff w/ Released craft. Not the best combat, new video soon.

Takeoff and dogfight. Please note the craft has been updated since this video was made. While the difference in appearance is small, the craft has gotten a major performance boost. It performs much better now. New video shortly.

The F-16 is a superb dogfighting craft. While not as fast as my F-22, this craft still hauls and is extremely maneuverable. This in addition it's small size makes it extremely effective in air-to-air combat. It is all set up as a fighter drone, just hit four and the craft arms and goes on the hunt.

--MRK II Upgrade--

Added the stabilizers on the underside of the craft & the mount under the Vertical Stabilizer. Thanks to u/Flakbadger for the mount suggestion, I couldn't replicate that part well but he had the perfect suggestion.

I also redesigned the front end of the fuselage to reduce drag and increase performance. AI has also been tweaked to be more effective in combat.

Nice! Your replicas always get the feel of the craft spot on!

Thanks man. I really just want these craft to look simple & seamless, but unmistakably identifiable as replicas. There may be a few small details missing, but I do try and get it to feel like the real thing.

I looked at tons of pictures but apparently I totally missed the flaps on the bottom. Easy fix though. Anyone know what they're purpose is? I mean beyond stabilization.

I've never seen a plane with wings on the bottom. There must be a reason only this craft needs them

I think the ventral fins are mostly for directional stability in supersonic flight.

I have also heard it mentioned that the vertical stabilizer can get occluded from the airstream during high angles of attack, while ventral fins don't have this problem. Not sure if that is the true purpose but it makes some sense to me.

There are actually quite a number of craft with ventral fins, some clear examples are the F-14, Sepecat Jaguar, MiG-25 and the English Electric Lightning, but I don't think they are as big and noticeable as on the F-16.

They kinda look cool I think.

The MRK II needs a little bit more testing and tuning, but I made a new video. I've finally got a good recorder and editor so my videos are starting to get better.

Awesome synchronized flying and good combat. Sweet kill at the end too. This should be ready tomorrow. Edited by clown_baby

Awesome! How do you make the F-16's move precisely together in the first minute? I tried using Burn Together but the follower crafts usually end up flying higher / lower...

Beautiful plane!

Thanks dude, I really like this one. Hopefully I can release it today. I have to tune both the stock and armed versions separately because the weapons add weight and drastically move the com.

Bdarmory. It's seriously the best mod. The autopilot does it, you gotta take off next to each other though.

Awesome craft. My jaw actually dropped when I saw the pics.:0.0:

Thanks a lot, the video is pretty cool too. Be sure to check out my F-22 as well, it's my favorite.

I'm working on this thread right now, craft will be available shortly.

Hey clown_baby,

Your work is seriously awesome.

J-Space Ind. is currently looking for engineers and builders, and you obviously have a skill with building aircraft.

Would you be interested in becoming a part of J-Space Ind? Check us out in the sig link.

Yes we are only a small company, but we have big ideas.

Hope to see you soon! :)

Maybe, I kind of work solo, but PM me.

I found out how to make gfys longer than 15 seconds. Check out the hand holding F-16's from the video.

Dude, you just solved my yaw instability issues in super and hypersonic flight.

My SSTOs would always go yaw unstable at over 1km/s, especially in a pitch up maneuver.

Your COL was probably too far forward. The faster you intend your craft to go, the farther behind the COM you want your COL. Adding more stabilizers in the back moved your COL farther behind the COL, which is why your craft is more stable at high speeds.

Nope, CoM was ahead of CoL, I was very pitch stable, it was yaw instability in pitch maneuvers in the thin upper atmosphere.

It was like I suddenly lost all yaw authority, of course I always countered this with RCS and unrealistically large vertical stabilizers.

Well I'm glad it worked out for you. I change the flap settings and move fuel around to get my fighters to supercruise.

I finally understand what you mean. I hadn't encountered that yet, but I did big time with my zoid. Trying to perform high G turns always lost all yaw authority and went into a spin.

You can actually see it here, the craft starts to become yaw unstable (wobbling left & right), so I fold the wings up making the inner win huge yaw flaps. This allows me to cut through the rest of the turn, then as soon as it's stable wings back down for more pitch.

Gfy is better.

In terms of the F-16, I've decided not to give it radar in order to save weight, and keep it agile. This will be my only craft that doesn't have radar, so people have an option to avoid it on my craft. This thing is still super competitive without it.

It's missing chaff missile defense but that is easy enough to add yourself. I'm contemplating adding a jammer to it, but I don't know.
