Some kind of universial docking port that covers multiple sizes?

I don't know if it's even possible, but is there some sort of 'configurable on the fly' part which has one end adaptor that can cover multiple sizes?

All I know of is the Universal Docking Ports mod by Capt. Kip but it's currently still a work-in-progress I believe.

There's a two-size docking port in the OPT spaceplane set, an inline unit for the J-class fuselage style.

It's the only inline docking port I know of which isn't just the stock 1.25m Clamp-O-Tron size.

The size/type is defined in the part.cfg. So the stock Clamp-O-Tron has this module:

There are some big docking ports in sets such as Space-Y, useful as an alternative to a decoupler. They just increment the size number, matching the standard series, so a 5m docking port is "nodeType = size4"

I do know of a couple of 1.25m ports which use a different nodeType to the usual size1. Because of the situation with in-line docking ports, I'd be tempted to use Module Manager to change the nodeType to the usual. But simpler just to use a Clamp-O-Tron.

The multiple-diameter port seems to depend on an animation which extends and retracts the size1 component, and incidentally changes the nodeType.
