Tutorials don't work?

Recommended Posts

Getting pretty frustrated with the tutorials in current 1.04...

The initial construction basics tutorial works.

The flight basics tutorial, the ship explodes when the tutorial starts, literally ship gone as soon as it starts up so the tutorial can't even be started

The orbiting tutorial, when you get to the point of the tut suggesting to time warp, you do so, and the ship suffers a catastrophic failure.

Seriously what the hell?

Does it explode due to overheating? You can check the flight log any time by pressing F3.

I'm away from the computer right now but I'm pretty sure this has happened to me in normal gameplay, not during a tutorial, and it has to do with the fact that for some reason small parts overheat for no reason in this current version of KSP. It can be avoided by opening the debug menu by pressing alt + 12 and checking the box 'Ignore max temperature'.

Of course, having to resort to the debug menu in order to play the game normally is a very bad thing, and I hope Squad fixes it in 1.1. This bug means I can't use a lot of parts because they overheat for no reason, such as the short adapters that I like to attach docking ports to on my crafts.

As an interesting additional piece of info...

I own two copies of the game now, I bought it on Steam a couple of years ago, and I bought it on GOG just then. The GOG version tutorials work perfectly

ok so the tutorials work in the GOG version, but the actual game doesn't work! You go to launch a ship (starting career mode) and the game enters some bizarre gamestate

I have uploaded the output_log.txt to http://www.arcturus.com.au/output_log.zip

....

so I restarted the gameclient, loadd my save game, and everything was fine. I have attempted to re-create the issue.

- start game

- tutorials

- flight basics

- get the ship into orbit (not sure if necessary - edit: it is)

- end scenario

- start new game

- career mode

- go to VAB

- Add Command Pod

- Launch

you get this screen:-

screenshot0.png

there is nothing you can do, any launch of a vehicle results in this screen.

ok so I tried the same thing as above WITHOUT going to orbit, and it doesn't fail. The above steps seem to be reproducible

Likely your tutorial issue was due to a bad file in Steam, it happens, and usually a file cache verification will solve most Steam problems.

This would explain why your GoG copy worked, it didn't have the corrupted file.

Your GoG issue looks like the issue caused by using anti-aliasing with a driver that Unity does not fully support, but your Nvidia card and driver should have been fine, and your log is full of null reference errors I've never seen before.

It looks like it just didn't install properly.

Just stick to the Steam version for now.
