KSP/Alpha/Cutoff shader is partially broken or used in unintended way

The thumbnail of the chair part is missing from a couple of places:

Also: the thumbnail of the launch clamp misses the vertical girder:

This was reported a couple of times (e.g.: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/121440), but didn't get any response.

Through trial and error I nailed this down: the shader you are using in this parts doesn't work properly with transparent background.

Here is my mod that fixes this problem:

Hi Mongoose, thanks for looking into this, you may be interested in knowing that the whole UI is being remade in Unity 5, also there is a public bug tracker [here] which is a better place to put issues such as this one.

Hopefully the new UI will fix these alpha issues, if not then your fix may help.
