Spontanious break up

I was doing some big 10 g maneuvers at 5000m and 500 m/s 30 seconds before to bleed off speed then in a tiny 1.5 g alignment the wings ripped off not 10 m from the runway. Anyone else seen this?

I am really upset because it was for a challenge and I had spent 3 hours aero breaking and rendezvous with the craft.

There are a number of factors that play into this. The faster you're moving, the more force is applied to the underside of your wing, which can only endure a force directly proportional to it's size and length of the contact point of the part it is connected to.

Did you check F3 after the crash? This bug still rears its ugly head from time to time, especially after long flights/missions.

The only solution: always quicksave before final approach and try again. If symptoms persist, then land a couple of kms from the KSC and taxi to destination.

BAH it happened again. I quicksaved just 2 minutes out so I got 15 tries at it. No mater how slow or how easy I came in wings would explode every time about 500m from the runway. I even landed short and taxied in and wings exploded while taxing. Just recovered it 2 km from KSP in the end this time.

Just checked out the link and yes this is exactly what happened. Always quick save before landing

Well it's hard to tell what they are representing in that jumble, but there appear to be some heat bars right on the brink of overheating and exploding. Perhaps that's the issue if you're not colliding with invisible buildings.

Not just "quicksave and try again," but "quicksave, restart, and try again" might be a good idea. This bug takes so long to trigger that it's been very low on the priority list for quite some time.

Yes I had just gotten done with a 50 or 60 day trip to mun and minimus I was afraid to restart the game because I had never loaded a quick save after a restart and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get to the plane quick enough before it crashed into the ground

Heat bars are for delicate equipment in the cargo bay everything on the craft had cooled down to less than glowing by then and landing 2 kilometers from KSP on Grass was very easy. It was just a matter of stopping before I hit the invisible wall and wings would still blow up while rolling on the ground or texting at 10 m/s

Don't text and fly

As you are controlling the craft all you need to do is read the log when it pops up.

It will say such and such items collided with or over heated.

Use that as a starting point.
