Toff climbs aboard

Just downloaded the basic Kerbal...and managed to get into space. Killed all the crew of course, I didn\'t realise you had to land again safely.

Not the most impressive thing for a new member/pilot to say, but I\'m using a room temperature iq, so get ready for dumb questions from time to time from me. I\'ve checked some of the threads and looked at the wiki, and it\'s very obvious I\'m waaaay out of my league...but that\'s something you lot will have to deal with, I\'ve found something fun to play with (Kerbal), and I\'m going to carry on with it.

;D

But a big well done to the developers and all who participated. I see no upper limit to the ways this can be developed as a concept, I\'ll never be able to help, so I hope you don\'t mind a 'hanger on' watching it all come together.

Welcome to the community Toff, we all started just like you have, and didn\'t know which end of a booster was the hot end :)

There are a lot of good people here who will do their best to help if you have questions, so if you want to know anything just ask, we\'ll try to help.

As the good Captain says, failure isn\'t a bad thing in this game, it\'s how we learn, and it can be fun.

Good luck on all your flights and have fun :)

Edited for spelling.

Welcome to the KSP Forums!

As long as you\'re having fun, failure doesn\'t matter. In this game, failure is often the goal, especially if you like big explosions.

Happy Launching!

Ty for the hello. I\'ll drop by each day and say hello, I\'ll try and keep my noob/stupid questions to a bare minimum I promise. :D

That\'s actually good to hear. I\'m glad I\'m not alone in being what seems to be the only kamikaze rocket developer. ;)

I found it just as hard, I don\'t use any fancy math or anything either. to get into orbit, I go really high, and then I Fly horizontal. :P

Hi Toff,

You are not alone. Only just installed Kerbal myself and my I\'m running on high octane enthusiasm rather than finely enigneered experience & knowledge ;D

Apart from the obvious playing and exploding - I\'ve downloaded a couple of stock rockets that seem quite stable, but I also mess around adding / removing bits from these and this gives me something of a clue on how various bits interact.

I\'ve already found that a rocket where things go wrong - usually indicated by a large explosion and loss of crew - can be made much better (or in some cases worse) by making small changes to the separation of various stages.

I actually managed to get off the pad and out into space (notice I don\'t say \'orbit\') just with manual guidance .... without using the S.R.S. Of course my enthusiasm was sort lived when I realised I couldn\'t get back !

The one thing I have learnt so far is .....

.................... Put a big enough engine on it and even a brick can fly!

If you are trying out rockets from the Stock Repository watch out, they were all made before 0.15 and there has been a few changes to the rigidity of the Radial Decoupler.

Basically they\'ll wobble and roll around their vertical axis unless you add some extra struts, I need to go over all of mine and make sure they are okay, but I know the Stocket Pocket Rocket in particular is badly affected :(

Just found that out. My rocket wobbles like a half melted candle. I\'m just getting the hang of struts, so far my results are not pretty, but I\'m getting there. Good news is I\'ve figured out how to bail when I loose control totally.

Also, there is a basic tri-coupler, but no duo-coupler or quad, there\'s scope for wild variations if they were included.

My best rocket so far is a flying fuel tank. Thank goodness money is no object in the basic.

Thankfully killing Kerbals is not a crime(yet), or we\'d all be doing time. Welcome to the funnest game this decade.

Loving it so far. The moon beckons to my suicidal crew :D

Yeah a Bicoupler would be nice, there is a pretty good mod you can try which suits the stock parts really well, you can find it here.

Other mods I can recommend are the cart mod ( which I helped with a little :D ) and the Sunbeam laser for clearing up debris.

There are so many mods for KSP as it has a very strong modding community, there\'s everything from satellite relay networks and mega rocket parts packs to old toys brought to life.

Well I\'m still using 13, so they are a bit ahead of me yet. I think it\'s best for me to learn to walk first. Remember I\'m just a joe average that has lucked into a good thing...but then again, if I can master this, anyone can. I\'ll try to add a higher version or mod in a day or so. Ty anyway.
