[ Suggestion ] Prefix part folders with unique identifier

It seems like it would be a good idea for those making mods to prefix their part names with a 3-4 letter code corresponding to their 'manufacturer.' (something like 'KSP_mk1pod', say, for the official pod). This would insure that name conflicts don't happen, and would help organize the KSP/Parts folder.

All my parts in my Pirate Pack currently have '_skullxbones' appended as a suffix. Except my retext of the command pod.

I find using Generic Mod Enabler a much better way of adding and removing part packs. Check the sticky in the How To forums for more information on using GME with KSP.

Or a separate folder for mod parts and stock parts.

This is what I do, I have a folder for just stock parts, and a folder for all addon parts. The main parts folder only has copies in it that can be cleared out if needed.

I take it these folders are outside the games \parts\ folder?

I'm currently working on parts myself atm and they will have a prefix.

All parts will start with MMI (hiding the full name for the moment) - So if you don't like my pack anymore. you only need to shift, click twice and delete and you get rid of my whole package. Or if you want to identify surtain objects for your own creation, it is easy to find. I suggest the others also create for their own a prefix.

There is another idea. I play MegaMek with is a Java based game. The unit files are in and kept in the zip files as a way to save space and keep them organized.

Would it be possible to adjust KSP to pull parts info right from the zip files? That way zipped mod packs can be dropped into the parts folders.

LOL The game already loads slow enough, imagine how much slower it would run if it had to unzip mods before loading parts.

I've had no issues and simple one-click installs/uninstalls using GME.

I'm definitely in favor of this idea as well.

The only thing with this is that as a prefix, you can very easily sort the parts out alphabetically and have it fall into packs. Not so much if the pack is appended as a suffix.
