legoclone09
I just have a question, I have the full game but I'm not sure what version the demo is. Wiki says 0.18.3, some forum members I saw talking about it said 1.0, and a other people said 0.90.
Pecan
The current version is "1.0.0.813 Demo" according to the main menu display, based on - IIRC - version 1.0.0 of the game (eg; aerodynamics). According to the readme.txt, however, it's "Version 0.90.0 Beta" (which is not true; just don't trust the readme there). The OLD, pre-1.0, demo was "Version 0.18.3 DEMO" according to its readme and was last updated before tweakables and even has the old-style KSC buildings. legoclone09
Oh, thank you. I might do some demo challenges now! Is the LV-909 in it also?
Pecan
All the current demo's parts are listed here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/130790-How-can-I-orbit-kerbin-and-the-moon-in-Demo?p=2124519&viewfull=1#post2124519
legoclone09
I saw that, but it didn't mention the LV-909, and that part is crucial to the game, but I believe it is in there (used to have demo in may/june 2013)
Pecan
Prepare to be disappointed then. It was in the old demo, it isn't in the new one.Now you get precisely two SRBs, one LFO engine and no gimbals. That's enough to land on either moon and return though, as my design in that thread demonstrates.
sal_vager
Don't overlook RCS for flight control, it's surprisingly effective now.
legoclone09
Ok, thanks. But the LV-909 is so necessary, I don't know why SQUAD doesn't have it in the demo when it's so important. I got into orbit for the forst time after learning it's magic. Then to the Mun.
cantab
Yeah, I feel the new demo was a bit *too* stingy on the range of parts. Having only non-gimballing engines makes the controlling rockets harder and having only tiny fuel tanks makes them over-wobbly and potentially shows up lag. Those are both things that make the demo play worse than the full game which I can't see as being a good thing.
legoclone09
Yeah, I think all FL-T tanks shoukd be available, and basic docking.

Jeb is life The reaction wheels (under the nosecones on each of the asparagus stacks) are important for attitude control as the command pod alone isn't enough and there are neither engine gimbals nor control surfaces. Going up is generally good, but more description of what is destroyed would be helpful, if orientation isn't the problem.

pathurus
For anyone who has the latest version of the demo, would they be so kind as to give me the files?
