Texture modification using Paint(.net)?

Recommended Posts

Spacesuit and Head textures can be modified using free painting programs. Can I modify the texture of the parts using Paint, PaintNet or Gimp? I am asking this because whenever I modify the texture for a part using Paint or PaintNet, it turns white ingame. Or do I have to change something in the configuration file?

Paint.net is what I used for all my WindowShine textures as well as the various part textures and planet textures I've made. You totally can use it, but you'll want to find the alpha channel plugin for paint.net before you edit anything. Most of the textures have big invisible areas on them and removing alpha channel transparencies is the only way to fix it. The plugin is on the forums Las Tim I checked (yesterday lol). :)

I'd be inclined to recommend the GIMP. It handles every file format you're likely to need, it uses layers (which are a powerful tool) and it's free. It's also, like KSP, available for Apple, Linux, and Windows. It's big, and complicated, but anything that does so much has to be.

And the best program is the one you know how to use, anyway.
