Well no, because its 1951 and Kerbal-Americans are on the moon. Sputnik wasn't even launched until 1956.

Russia never planned on Direct Ascent. They planned to do Lunar Orbit Rendezvous, just like Apollo.

My rocket is direct ascent because I'm a scrub and I thought it could handle it.
