Is there a way to get past KSP version on steam.

I just don't get why people have a problem with the new aero. It's actually easier to make a spaceplane now, unless you were one of those guys that spammed air intakes so you could get almost into orbit on jets alone.

People hate change.

OP: I would recommend learning the new aero system. I know, it takes time and isn't fun for a while - but when you get it down, it's amazing.

I second the thought that new aero is much better than the previous - it's still a bit forgiving when it comes to the stalls and spins department but other than that, everything just about behaves in a manner that's passably believable. And that's more than good enough for a game that's meant to take place mostly in space :)

It actually acts like an old version of Ferram Aerospace and that's high praise. I haven't installed FAR in 1.0.4 and don't intend to, as releasing stock craft is much more rewarding and makes the cool designs more accessible to everyone.

It's the combination of soupy atmosphere and crappy engines that's the problem. I've built a space plane that can fly to Minmus and refuel with an on-board ISRU to go anywhere in the Kerbol system and I can tell you without hesitation - Space planes in 1.0 are not as fun as in 0.90 no matter how many times you do it.

I've seen this question before; There's a growing community of users that are back dating to previous versions of the game because they were simply more fun and while I wouldn't do it myself, I understand why they feel that way.

Also, I'm one of the vast majority of players that would never download FAR. Why Squad has forced everyone to use that particular mod by including it in the core game play is beyond me.

Your definition of fun is not universal. Spaceplanes were dull for me before 1.0, mostly because the jets were so OP that they were trivial. They actually take more thought and design now, and are more challenging; I find this more fun.

Odd to call the post-1.0 atmosphere soupy while wishing for the old one, the old atmo was far thicker.

If only they had left the option to use the old drag model. Like in the Alt-F12 menu or something. ;)

While I agree with you that FUN is a subjective term and there are people who find the current aerodynamic model to be lots of fun, the problem I'm encountering is introducing this game to new young players. They generally like to build those cool space planes and are immediately confronted by the reality that (in the lastest version of the game) it's a long and sluggish flight profile into orbit keeping the nose only a few degrees above the horizon for the most part. Now this may be a more realistic flight path, I don't know because space planes don't exist in the real world, but I can tell you it's a grind and it's a much tougher sell than it used to be.

I'm just trying to rationalize where Jackboy900 and others are coming from when they post requests like this. He paid for the game, why shouldn't he be able to use a back-dated version?

Also I'm not advocating a complete change to the aerodynamic model. After building several advanced SSTO's, in my opinion it's largely the engines that are the problem - I think they've just been nerfed way too much and we've gone from spamming air intakes to spamming engines.

The biggest reason: It creates support requests, and confuses people trying to help them.

The lesser reasons: It requires more maintenance on the infrastructure side to support more downloads. Users might be confused about which version they should download. Steam doesn't support that many versions (afaik they only support having one previous version available, and even that might be early access only).

Edit: As others have pointed out, the 0.90 version is still available.

Umm, guys. Have any of you actually looked at Steam before giving answers to the OP?

You're aware that there IS in fact a 0.90 download on Steam, right?

You go to the games library, rightclick on Kerbal Space Program, choose Properties. In the window that opens, go to the "Betas" tab. There is a dropdown menu there that says "NONE - Opt out of all beta programs". But when you click it, you can switch it instead to "Previous - Previous Stable Release".

And that downloads 0.90 to your computer if you then uninstall and reinstall KSP. I'm literally doing it right now. I can screenshot it if you don't believe me.

You should be able to get 0.90 from Steam.

Go to your Steam library -> right-click on KSP -> Properties -> Betas tab -> Select the Previous version.

I think this will give you 0.90, though it might give you 1.0.2, or 1.0, you'll have to try it.

It would be nice if they included all previous versions there.

Edit: Too slow. :(

It does indeed give you 0.90. The current version is 1.0.4, the previous version is 0.90. The patches in between don't exist.

...No seriously :P I made a thread a while back inquiring if there was any way of obtaining a copy of 1.02 directly from Squad. The thread was hard locked by a moderator within 3 minutes of posting it, who explained that sorry, that version doesn't exist anymore, please do not ask again.

I think they shipped it off to Roswell or something :D

(Once 1.1 launches, the previous version will become 1.0.4... so if you want to get 0.90, you better do it in the next few weeks.)

Version 0.90 is still available on the KSP download web site. Look I'm just trying to provide some constructive feedback on an issue that is obviously still outstanding with version 1.0. Trust me nobody wants this game to succeed more than I do - all I'm trying to say is that it needs a revisit on balance when it comes to aerodynamics, engines and the enjoyment that new players are going to get when flying space planes.

UPDATE: it looks like StreetWind has provided an answer to the OP, and I'm confident game balance will be updated by Squad for V1.1 - which I'm really looking forward to by the way, so it's all good.

I keep all Zip files from squad. As well as the Save files and mods for those alpha’s and beta's.

Got them all nicely sorted in my download folder.

To the OP, Not sure if this would upset squad as you seem to already have a game copy so PM me if you want one.

As for the aero I both like and dis-like the new & old.... I miss launching my aircraft carriers and flying SSTO boxes (internal cockpits you can walk around) but I love the new heating and the mach effects.

This is why I keep the old files so when I feel nostalgic I can fire up say 0.19 and see my old outposts, 0.22 fly my old Mk3 space planes and 0.23.5 go boating on laythe with a full fleet :) etc. etc. it's nice to have a lot of free space for that little and rarely used luxury.
