Proof that SpaceX uses KSP to design rockets

I knew KSP was Elon Musk's secret to quickly design cheap reliable rocket boosters! Link: http://venturebeat.com/2015/01/06/spacex-tesla-founder-elon-musk-loves-kerbal-space-program-mass-effect-and-civilization/

JR

Expecting reliability from KSP made rockets is like betting that N1 will make it to orbit.

SpaceX staff must have forgotten to install newest version of Kerbal Joint Reinforcement after updating Real Solar System :D

Just kidding, Elon knows we are the future.

Yet, the engine used in the N1 is one of the best ever made and is still in use, including in the US.

And Falcon Heavy will use fuel crossfeed, i.e. the secret behind asparagus staging's success! You may be onto something...

Their attempted landings are very Kerbal:

That almost perfect landing followed by an agonizingly slow tip over while RCS fires desperately trying to save it could be right out of one of my KSP missions.

Or this other one, looks like SAS was left in "retrograde" mode, and some wag added the kerbal portaits:

They should have used reaction wheels on the craft! it coulda righted itself! :P

I don't see how this is proof of anything. All rockets have struts. Most rockets have lots of struts. This is a case of coincidence rather than correlation.

Its proof of the sense of humor of the OP,its supposed to be a funny post, not actually "proof" of anything :P

If you're an engineer yourself things like this aren't funny. You watch them with a bit of pain, because you know how much work just blew up. But at least they will surely add some piece of software that will drive away the dragon capsule from the debris field and use the parachute to rescue at least the payload...

By the way, does anybody know when the next launch is due?

Well, spacexstats.com is not available so...

I'm an engineer and find it hilarious. Why? Well, for starters, nobody got hurt so at that point, it's fair game for humor. What else can you do with disaster except laugh in its face?

Now, understand that I wish Space-X nothing but good fortune. After all, it should be that AVDENTES FORTVNA IVVAT. But OTOH, as an engineer, I can't imagine their scheme ever proving to be economically viable, given that history so far has shown it isn't even close. So I think their boldness lies more in leveraging hype than in producing reality, and that's not really what Dame Fortune favors. That's another reason to laugh, seeing apparent scoundrels getting what they deserve. HOWEVER, until they actually recover something worth flying again, there's no telling if they're scoundrels or not, and I really want to know, so I wish them the best of luck with that. And if they're right, then more power to them. But I doubt that will be the case.
