I have just got Kerbal on steam and have been playing for about 2 weeks. I have found this game to be the most awsome game i have played in years. But i need help with one thing, MODS. I know how to install but i dont know what to get, for example i want to build bases but where do i go to find one and which mods go with eachother. If someone can help it would be grate.

Assuming CKAN.

What mods you need: Stock Bugfix Modules.

The rest is personal preference. Try things out.

What mods you probably want very badly but don't know it yet: Kerbal Alarm Clock, Precise Node, Kerbal Engineer Redux, Transfer Window Planner, Part Commander, Menu Stabilizer, Procedural Parts, B9 Procedural Wings, Procedural Fairings.

Mods for building bases: USI Kononization systems, anything else with USI in the name. Kerbal Inventory System, Kerbal Attachment System, Magic Smoke Industries Infernal Robotics.

Mod I won't play without but you might not want: Ferram Aerospace Research.

Others: Well, lots. There are tons of good mods. Try things, CKAN makes it easy to add/remove mods.

If you have been playing for only 2 weeks I suggest continue with no gameplay mods for a little longer. Gameplay Mods and Part mods are for later when the base game is becoming tiresome they add more flavor to keep replayability up.. That said, visual mods can make the game better without altering game mechanics so it would be pretty much the stock game anyway.

Visual Mods

*These include Environmental Visual Enhancements which adds clouds (there are several texture packs to go with it, I use Astronomer's Visual Pack: Edge of Oblivion).

*PlanetShine adds better lighting reflection.

*Engine Lighting

*Recently I've been using Ven's Stock Part Revamp which makes all the parts prettier, but it also adds parts so for a new player I would remove the PartsBin folder until you have done much more in the game.

*CoolRockets adds rocket effects on the launch pad (make sure you read the install instructions, SmokeScreen needs to be installed).

*RealPlume makes the engine plumes (flames) look more realistic.

*TextureReplacer adds reflections to EVA suits, allows you to change the skybox, kerbal suits, and much more.

*WindowShine is configs for TextureReplacer that adds the EVA suit reflections to all part windows.

*Distant Object Enhancement - Loads craft views at greater distances, among other things.

Utility Mods (Shameless Plugs incoming)

*BULB - change light colors in flight.

*ToggleFuelCells - adds a simple action group ability for toggling fuel cells

*ChuteSafetyIndicator - makes it easier to see if it is safe to deploy chutes

*EnhancedNavBall - lets you move the navball around and resize just the navball.

*PortraitStats - Puts icons representing level and class on their IVA portraits in flight.

*WaypointManager - Lets you see contract waypoints in the flight view.

WindowShine really don't work that good on all OS and ( RealPlume makes the engine plumes (flames) look more realistic. ) ? that is a yes and no and Engine Lighting not very realistic IMO

EDIT- The rest good to go but really might need to know what OS they are running.

Depends on your wishes.

Dunno about base building mods, but there surely are some ... I guess USI Kolonization could help there.

(most of them were already mentioned by SAI however)

Generally useful:

Kerbal Engineer Redux

Precise Node

If you want more realism:

Ferram Aerospace Research (FAR)

Procedural Fairings

Deadly Reentry

If you want even more Realism (definitely :

Realism Overhaul with Real Fuels

Procedural Parts (definitely useful to get a larger variety of tanks)

Also, if you want it more complex than AntennaRange, try RemoteTech
