Electric boat?

Recommended Posts

Are there any designs of boats/ships/floats/paddlewheels etc that could cover a considerable distance over sea on Eve at a reasonable speed (faster than Kerbal swimming...)

(obviously, that means jet/rocket propulsion wouldn't quite fit the bill as these would probably run out of fuel way too fast. Electric or something like this?).

I think probably using specialized mods. Or maybe intake bug (not sure if that still exists, though) and some modded electrical prop engine. And when everything else fails... debug menu ;)

Some versions back I made this using the intake bug:

That save is lost though, dunno whether it works and am too busy now to test it.

Ion engines have an Isp asl of 100 (at Kerbin) and, if I remember well, solar panels are terrible inside Eve's atmosphere and do not like being moved around in atmosphere. So I guess you'll have to look aroung for mods to do the job, there probably are quite a few out there offering what you wish for.

With sufficient creativity, you could do a torque driven paddlewheel. A bunch of large SAS units to make the paddlewheel, wing sections for the paddles, an appropriately placed probe core to direct the torque and hold down the Q etc key to go.
