A few weeks ago I started getting low framerate. Before it would only drop below 60 when looking at Kerbin from space but even 100+ part spaceships wouldn't drop below 30. I originally encountered the problem in a modded install but everything below is from stock. Problem does not occur near Mun. KSP is 32bit, non-Steam copy. Edit: I tried the minDistance, minSubdivision, maxSubdivision fix, little appreciable difference.

dxdiag log

Thank you.

I have the exact same issue since the 1.0 update. Before i could just edit the minocean distances but now even that won't work. I've changed resolutions, texture quality, etc. but nothing works.

Can you please try rolling back to an earlier graphics driver.

For KSP to be fine for weeks then to suddenly change suggests something on the system changed, and likely it was the driver.

I didn't update the driver, my game has always had this problem but it was fixable thanks to the modification of the mindistance ocean setting. Now that doesn't work. Everytime I glance at Kerbin, my game chugs severely but when I look away from it it cruises at 60 fps.

SOLVED: Turned off Shader model 3, installed texture replacer. Game is back to where Im used to.

Trigger1112, did you put KSP in C:\Program Files (x86)\ ?

None of the installers I've used will put KSP there, the store installer puts KSP in C:\Kerbal Space Program, the GoG installer installs to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG\, Steam installs to a Steam folder and so on.

The only one I don't know about is the Amazon version but I assume it is nearly identical to the store installer.

The reason I ask this is that putting any program in C:\Program Files (x86)\ can be bad, as it won't have a registry entry and won't be able to write files properly.

Even if it has write permission (running as admin) it'll be continuously scanned by anti-virus software, and checked by data-execution-prevention (DEP), slowing it down.

Copying KSP to C:\Games and running the copy would show an improvement if this is the case, but even if it's not faster, keeping it in C:\Program Files (x86)\ could lead to further issues.

Try installing Texture replacer

Thanks! I installed the planet conversions pack and I'm getting around 30 fps at launch now.

That's just where I copied a fresh install for testing purposes. It usually sits on another drive, although since the issues with the patcher I've been running it from the desktop.
