Could we get the ramp in variations?

Recommended Posts

What it says on the tin. Closing up the tail section of a Mk3 hull is a pain, and it's really hard to complete one in a short fashion. The Mk3 to 2.5 connectors are nice, but why not have a version of the ramp hull that doesn't open and just contains fuel instead? You know, save us the trouble, and all that.

don't think this is that necessary? A slanted Mk3 to 2.5m adapter + nosecone always works for me. It's just 2 parts and from the very limited amount of pictures we've seen of the ramp, i'd say it's roughly the same size.

What I'm more wondering about is the cargo bays. Right now all we have to connect to the ramp are the Mk3 cargo bays which open up on their own as well. Because of the risk of kraken attacks, trying to put stuff on/through the doors is a very bad idea, I'm wondering if we can simply get hollow Mk3 parts without any doors. Just structural hollow tanks essentially.

You can just not open the doors. I think the OP's suggestion is more interesting to me. I agree, Mk3 has a limited good looking solutions to tails (so does Mk2 btw). Mk3 also lacks a good looking nose cone though, it's like they just expected us to build the middle of the plane.

Worst case scenario OP, looking at the model, it should be possible to remove the animation module and add in some fuel using a new config file, it can share the same texture. When closed the door isn't all that apparent anyway. It will still be hollow from the other side, but that is usually covered by a fuel tank anyway.

The Mk3-2.5m adaptor, plus the C7 Adaptor and the pointy nosecone seems to be enough. It also carries fuel.. IMHO asking for a version of a cargo ramp that doesn't open is equivalent to the hollow Mk3 fuselage suggestion, not saying it's bad, but.. there's already a solution.

can you stick stuff on the doors of a cargo bay though? I'm at work now so I can't check but that is basically my main worry: I LOVE the concept of the ramp, but if I want to incorporate the Mk3 in more complex ships, I'd probably want to stick parts on all sides of the cargo bay.

That being said, this is indeed only a minor thing, there's definitely already solutions out there.

Not really. Your suggested solution is one I know about, and wastes both mass, length, and pitchability on the runway. It makes it very difficult to take off or land, because you have a good chance to smash that extremely extended tail when the plane first bites the air. I don't need 'lots of length', I don't need a THREE part solution when I could have a one part solution and save a whole bunch of time and effort.

..Emptying the fuel perhaps? And an unopening Mk3 Cargo Ramp would still cause you tailstrikes.

And 3 parts isn't that much to sacrifice. It's just finding three parts. You can do it in less than a minute.

It would be practically be the same to an empty tail.
