Notification when being quoted in a Forum post

Not sure where this belongs, couldn't find a "Meta-Forum".

Is it possible to configure the Forum software to spew notification when someone quotes me in a forum post?

I know of the "subscription" option to simply subscribe to a whole thread, but that's a bit TMI for me.

Cheers

The place you seek is the "Kerbal Network" subforum under the "Other Forums" section. :)

As for the suggestion, it comes up often. There's also a forum upgrade planned in the future, I think Kasper is working on it. Not sure if it will have this feature.

I don't think so; These are forums, not facebook feeds. you don't get emailed everytime someone tags you in a post.

A forum facebook feed would be kinda cool actually...

Well the notification thing definitely technically feasible. The XDA-Forums (Android/Mobile developer forums) have that feature and I really like it a lot. E-Mail per quote should be configurable obviously.

Ok, Thanks. Dear Mods, please move this.

I think I may have a workaround: Click "Advanced Search" in the banner, and search for "[quote="Kobymaru". (or whatever your username is, of course). I just did that with my name and it faithfully returned a list of posts in which I was quoted. You won't get an automatic notification but if you save that search and run it periodically ordered by date, you can see if there are any new posts that quote you.

I've had that issue when doing searches where it seems to want to get the X oldest posts (for some value of X). Workaround is to date limit your search to last month (or some other appropriate period).

I think I tried that and it just gave me other posts with no mention of me.

I'm getting some odd results, too. Testing some alternatives...

Edit: Can't seem to make it work, what are the exact search terms you are using, Kuzzter?

I am searching for Posts only that contain the keyword "

--that is, with the quotation marks included in the search so that it returns only results with that exact string. Are you guys maybe doing it without the quotation marks? When I do it with the marks I get 5 pages of results and they all seem to have me quoted somewhere, when I do it without the quotes I get wackiness.

Yes, I was searching [quote name="endersmens" and not getting anything.

Searching "

got nothing, just pulled up posts that had any bolded text in it.

Arggh! No, I was just trying to bold the part you search for. This is becoming comedic! Make everything after the colon at the end of this sentence your search term, and nothing else:

"[quote=endersmens"

It worked. I didn't have the quotations on the outside. :P

That can't get any more mangled and messed up XD

Searching for [removed tag to avoid HTML confusion] including the quotation marks gets me nothing newer than August 2014. Weird.
That sort of wackiness happened with me when I did not use the quotes, and I presume it was returning everything that had "QUOTE" in it which is everything. I wonder if you've been quoted so often, Red, that it can't handle the number of results and limits the results to the older posts?

Yup, that's what I was referring to when I posted this:

If the search returns too many results, it'll truncate the list - but the awesome forum software throws away the *newer* stuff, rather than the older stuff.
