Project Genesis Uno: My first interplanetary mission...! Int2Pt1: Val's House

This is Project Genesis, which will be a series of interplanetary missions, starting with what will be my first EVER interplanetary mission, EVER. Project Genesis Uno will go to Duna, and whilst there, on the way, and on the way back collect alot of science, I'm playing in what I call Science Sandbox Sandbox, which is science mode, but with the TreeToppler mod, I can unlock the whole tech tree from the start, meaning I can do science and not have any limits to what else I can do.

Progress so far.

Some info about the Genesis Uno, it will carry six Kerbals, two Scientists, two Engineers, and two Pilots. I will be using the Habitat Pack for the hab module, and possibly the command module, as well as MJ to dock vessels, as this is about Duna, not learning to rendezvous and dock. Other mods will be [X]Science, UKS, and possibly KAS/KIS, and maybe some others that I haven't used yet. This takes place from where Minmus Explorers abrubtly left off, basically, the Minmus Explorers project was cancelled (or maybe just halted for a long time) to conduct this. As this is my first interplanetary mission I will be making noob moves, so dont go screaming at me "You could've a hohmann transfer!" because I have no clue what that is. Instead of what I did with Minmus Explorers, where I focused on the story, on this one I'm going to focus more on what actually happens, and focus a bit less on the story, doesn't mean I won't be trying to make a good story, though!

Anyways, on to the mission.

Aldvis: What do you mean you cancelled Minmus Explorers?!

Gene: I'm sorry Aldvis, but I won't need to apologize any more after you see what we've replaced it with...

Aldvis: What did you replace it with?!

Gene: Project Genesis, more specifically, Project Genesis Uno.

Aldvis: What in Sam Hills is that?!

Gene: Calm down, Aldvis, Project Genesis Uno is going to Duna.

Aldvis: WHAT?!

Gene: It's gonna be big...

Aldvis: DOUBLE WHAT?!

Gene: And it's gonna bring three Kerbals.

Aldvis: TRIPLE WHAT?!

Gene: Who is Watt? I don't know any Watt Kerman's... Anyway, some sad news for you, we've lost all contact with the Adams Photographer, and Marie's systems haven't detected any signals that would've come from Adams, we have no clue what happened, some theories include meteoroids, but that would leave remains that would give off signals, and Giorgio A. Kerman's only word on the matter is "Aliens."

Aldvis: What was it's last words?

Gene: They were "ROGERROGER, L00k0ut M4r13." No clue what L00k0ut M4r13 means.

Aldvis: Strange, no Beep-Beep or Bzzt?

Gene: Nope.

Aldvis. Double strange, anyway, back to Genesis. Who's going on it?

Gene: We don't have that many recruits, and we're narrowing things down at the moment. We know for sure Lugee is coming, and the planned Hab Module for the ship will have two empty seats, so his Kittehkats can come.

Aldvis: Nice, anyway, fifth hour's here, gotta get to sleep by the first hour tomorrow, as per Sharkman Space Agency schedule.

Gene: Of course, you are dismissed.

Gemet, Val and Catgie: YOU WHAT MATE?!

Aldvis: Thats right, Minmus Explorers project is cancelled and we're sending six of us to Duna, maybe Ike.

Gemet: What about Adams, what about Marie?!

Aldvis: Adams got destroyed no-one knows what happened.

Val: Darn. I am disappoint.

Catgie: Shame. I like this sandvich, though. Ham, Ratquirrelfish and Kukumber.

Gemet: Oh shut it, you! *chuckle*

Val: Yeah, Catgie, keep on the topic!

Catgie: I am on topic! I want them to bring some of these Sandviches with them!

Aldvis: Squad darnit Catgie, anyway, the first module's taking off in half an hour, so lets get outta here.

Gemet: What? Half an hou-

Aldvis grabbed Gemet on the arm and pulled her our of the communal room.

Catgie: Should we go with them?

Val: No, let them be alone.

Aldvis: You two, come along!

Catgie: You heard 'em, night-time sandvich eating atop the VAB!

Gemet: When is the count-down?

Val: Don't think they're doing one.

Catgie: Me neither. I've finished three sandviches now, they start the countdown by the time I've eaten one sandvich up here.

Aldvis: I've checked my watch, hold your ears.

RRRRRRAFFFFF RRRRR

And so the new Ignis 1 launcher soared into the sky, it roared into the sky and it bored right into the sky. - Some rhyming guy hanging around near KSC.

Back to me talking about Project Genesis, to launch the first module, the Core, which has the Science Lab, basic battery and SR docking ports. I've stepped up my game alot since the Sharkman Launch Sloth's, which weren't very strong. The new Ignis 1 launcher I'm using is a big upgrade. Hope you've all enjoyed the first part. My most ambitious mission yet, in many ways other than just my first interplanetary mission, it will be my first mission out of Kerbin SOI, my most dockings, as before this my first docking was on a station ages ago, all dockings will be done with MJ, as well as rendezvous. Sorry theres no pictures other than the progress picture as of now, when I did this I didn't know I was gonna make it into a Mission Report, so I didn't take any screens.

So, yesterday, after the science experiment module docked onto the core module, I did some science in LKO, blah blah blah. Today, I did the first service mission and crew transfer, with Doler and Bill, and of course, Mechjeb, it all went off find except a fuel flow error I forgot to correct on the first try. It was supposed to put Doler in the science lab to take care of the experiments, but when I did it I realized there were no parachutes on the servicer, so Bill is now in there too, Bill had no purpose to be there after all, becasue he was supposed to use KAS struts to stabilize the ship, but the places where the struts were supposed to go were too far apart. So overall the mission WAS a success, because Doler got into the science lab, reset the sciene experiments and did some more experiments, but as is tradition with me there was alot of complications.

I was gonna post a story to this, but for some reason all my progress was deleted after I left the computer for a while during writing it, so I couldn't be bothered to write anything here, but today or tomorrow I will be launching the Centrifuge (Habitat Pack) module. If anyone can help me with a lander design I can put in the ship, I would be very thankful because I have no clue how I would do that, the only way I can think of that would work with my proposed design is having it inline, meaning every time it undocks I have to dock the station back together, and as proven on this mission I can't do docking even at very close distances between the docking port, and putting the lander on the back would be difficult becasue I would have to put the engines and such on radially, which would require some precise docking to orient it right, which I can't tell MJ to do, so any Duna lander designs are appreciated. As well as advice on how to place it on the ship.

Thanks! I'd like to ask you if you know how I could integrate IVA's with the story, as I'm going to use the big inflato storage container from the HabitatPack mod, which has 3 "areas" in it's IVA, a table where 3 Kerbals are sitting, one place with plants growing next to the one kerbal there, and a sort of lounge where 2 Kerbals are sitting on bean-bag like things, I really like using IVA's in stories, so any suggestions for parts with good IVA's for this stuff is really appreciated!

Chapter 1: Part 3 is out! This should be Part 1, as it's the first non-interlude part, but since I have two non-graphic-novel style parts before this that aren't interludes, I'm calling this part 3 of chapter 1, new characters imminent!

I apologize for the horrible ZZZ on the scond panel, for some reason the writing I had got cut off, so I had to go with it instead of rewriting that bit at the end of the sentence, because the writing would be unreadable, I'm terrible at writing with paint. Hope you've all enjoyed the story so far, that Munar Station is going to be moved to orbit of the Mun once it's finished. And after that I'm going to start working on a self-sufficient mining outpost there.

Chapter 1: Part 4 is out! Genesis Uno hab module delivered, Bill still complaining about snacks, Tigie has a new hair colour!

Hope you all like it! Pretty sure I'm talking to myself here, but whats everyones favourite character so far? We've got Tigie, Harburry, Gene, Bill, and Doler, at least those are the most major characters so far.

Oh yeah, okay, what font should I try to make it easiest for people to read it?

Like I said I use 14pt, it looks like you are doing your dialogue in 10 or 12 point and your main titles in 18 or 20. Something between the size of your titles and the size of your dialogue should work OK.

Got a treat for y'all cookin' in the next Interlude! It's gonna be very story-based, with Val and her 'friend' getting alot of attention, and now Bob, Gemet and Aldvis are back! I've made a nice cozy little countryside place for Val, using the furnished house I've showed you all, added a cool streetlamp and now Gemet has a car! A Kerberove CP4-01, which has such terrible brakes I needed to use landing legs instead... Everyone get hyped! I should start working on the making of the part tomorrow, as it's getting late where I am. I've taken all the screens, though!

Interlude 2: Part 1 is out! I kept my promise, about, uh... (Gets fingers out) 5 new faces today, most characters from Minmus Explorers that we havent seen since.

Speaking of Minmus Explorers, I've just realized I have NO clue where Malcolm is, as he's not in my roster and I'm pretty sure he's not in space anymore.

That can happen sometimes: I've had kerbals' ships get eaten by one Kraken or another, and found them later on in the "missing" list. Had to go into the save file to make them "available" and then assigned them to new ships.
