I hear you, I have a laptop and I found a setting in the bios to enable/disable the webcam. It's currently set to disabled. I keep my ethernet plugged in, though, but in my bedroom I have zero lights other than the alarm clock, which is so dark that it can only be seen at night. Even the light from a power strip will prevent me from going to sleep, and before I had the idea to just leave my power strips switched off I was using groups of 20 or more post-it notes folded in specific ways to block the various lights that were shining.

I am exactly the same way. My computer power block has a little light, and the side of my laptop has a light, and if I don't cover it, it bugs me. I usually get tired of it and grab a shirt from my dresser and cover it.

OpenOffice is kinda bad. The formatting of Microsoft office documents always gets messed up, and the user interface is very chunky.

That could very well be. I've heard that 'some types' of formatting had issues. I've not run into it however, but that's likely because I started using Open Office so long ago. I've noticed LibreOffice is coming with most Linux distributions these days, which many believe (of Libre) is superior. I have both actually, but rarely use except for the spreadsheet.

Oh I'm sorry if I misled you all, I've been dual-booting (K)ubuntu ever since Feisty Fawn, it's just wasn't my primary OS until recently, due to the Orwellian win10. I know what I'm doing.

the only reason Windows was formerly my primary OS is because I used to host "private" game servers, but that is no longer the case.
