Challenge: Drag race to 100KM altitude

I have been trying to reach the altitude of 100KM as fast as possible.

So far I have made it in 2min 49sec with final velocity just bit under 3200m/s.

So, I want to challenge you, my fellow gamers, to try and reach altitude of 100KM as fast as possible, with final velocity over 4000m/s.

I have used the Sunday Punch's Wobbly rockets mod, v. 1.08.

Extra stylepoints will be awarded for usage of basic parts only ;P

Did two runs in 2m 38s and 2m 39s. Difference in times due to manual control during liftoff... my dragster isn't exactly stable in the first stage with just one SAS. Which is also why I think my time is probably easy to beat with a more stable rocket.

I used basic parts only and my end speed was 1966 m/s just a second or so before reaching 100 km altitude.

Engine parts used:

4x Liquid Engine

4x Liquid Fuel Tank

21x Solid Fuel Booster

1st Stage: 12x Solid Fuel Boosters

2nd Stage: 9x Solid Fuel Boosters + 3x Liquid Engines

3rd Stage: 1x Liquid Engine

Run it again without the parachute (does it have mass?) and controlled the craft a little better at launch, the time was 2m 37s with a final speed of 2143 m/s.

1minute, 5 seconds on a single tank of gas and a pair of E1000s. Hit 3.5km/s at burnout

my best time so far is 1 minute 4 seconds and i think i can beat it, trying one more idea then i'll post pictures and ship info as proof.

1 SAS mod

1 decouplers

1 XL fuel tank

1 5x1 coupler

5 necelle engines

new time: 58 SECONDS to get to 102KM!!!!!

old time: 1 minute 3 seconds to hit 101KM.

lol i know, i tried with the stock parts, seriously about to pull my hair out because i can't get anything to friggin fly straight!!!!!

i'll try with all wobbly rocket parts next after i calm down..

'chute has a mass of 0.3.

just got into the game today, and found your thread...

on stock parts was able to hit 100,822m in 2min 25sec, with a highest speed achieved of 2095m/s

And I made new personal record! I did it in 2m 4s, with final velocity of bit over 3000m/s :w00t:

Ok, time was improved a lot, but WANT MOAR SPEED! >

By optimizing the stages I managed to squeeze couple more seconds off: 1m 57s, with final velocity of 3080 m/s.

To be sure non-stock in this competition doesn't impress me. I dove into the .cfg files and shaved down my time from just over 2 minutes to around 1 minute. The only limiting factor was keeping my rocket from ripping apart from the acceleration. Some of the non-stock parts are essentially cheats with nice textures. I honestly don't mind them, but in a competition like this they really can throw things askew.

My design evolved to approximately this, and I got 2:04. The craft is impressively difficult to launch.

2:08 if I remove a LFT and put 3 more SRBs on the bottom.
