Developers: Will 1.1 crash current career games?

Recommended Posts

OK, I can't seem to find a straight answer to this anywhere here or on Steam... and what I do read is somewhat conflicting.

So I'll just post this and ask direct.

And I hope I'm posting this in the right spot.

I have a simple question for the developers: Will version 1.1 and the switch to Unity5 support or crash current 1.0.4 career games?

I've seen people write they expect career games to crash, but I also read something about the contextual contracts adding to where we are currently in a game, which implies the career games will continue to play.

So can someone please, please just give me a yes or no answer.

Will out current career's play in 1.1???

In a recent squadcast max said that it will likely work fine. Also I would like to remind everyone that saves from 0.18 still work, so save games don't break as easy as you may expect (unless it is modded of course). The upgrade from Unity 3 to 4 didn't break saves either.

That's fantastic!!! I've only been playing since 0.9. I wasn't around for the earlier upgrades, so I didn't know how that all went.

Oh, and myself, I'm only using Chatterer and Asteroid day mods... I try and stay as close to stock as possible... so that shouldn't be an issue.

Outstanding!! Thank you!!!

I believe that many people say they are afraid of broken saves, but what they really fear are broken crafts, from changed part behaviors. I think there's little to fear from savegame compatibility unless they change the format and content of the .sfs system. Part behavior changes, on the other hand, can really bork things, especially for missions already in orbit.

Craft files and persistence files are directly under Squad's control guys. A game engine change isn't going to suddenly change their format. The parts are being made to behave the same as they did in the last version. New replacement parts may cause a little strangeness due to size and shape changes on existing craft, but usually won't cause anything to severely break, it will just look odd. In the past changes like this have caused gaps to appear or things to be out of place. If you are really concerned, bring home your Mk1 craft before upgrading.

yeah, that I experienced when 1.0.4 came out and a couple parts on my space stations exploded. But like now I was really far into this career, and my people didn't die, so I treated it like a huge rescue mission: "Evacuate the defective space stations" lol. I had to scrap the old stations, but I saved my people.

If that situation occurs with 1.1, and it isn't too drastic, I'll most likely approach it the same way.

I'd go one further and preemptively evacuate back to Kerbin. Just pretend it's "potentially dangerous solar activity" and bring everyone back to the safety of Kerbin until it passes, then head back out to see what the damage is like.

The big thing will likely be wheels. Beyond that, it doesn't (yet) sound like anything else will break saves or craft.

What's still unclear is how the addition of a comm network will effect existing missions.

Cheers,

There is no way to see, i would just wait and make a backup, thankfully ksp (thanks a lot squad :D) is a drm free game.

Absolutely THANK YOU to everyone at Squad!!! I wish there was something I could do to help out...

Wait, 0.9 or 0.90? I don't think save games were a thing in 0.9.

may have 0.90... I don't remember exactly now...
