Scan for planet height maps.

Recommended Posts

As the title says. This would be super useful for picking landing spots. I understand that ScanSAT is a mod that exists but this is something that should have been included in the stock game, along with resource scanning. It's impossible to know the highest points on Eve without looking up the info online or using a mod, and we all know how important it is to find a high plateau on Eve, and it could also be used to find a flat area to land on a lumpy planetoid like Gilly or Bop.

Why not use ScanSat?

It is one of those "must have" mods that I also think should be implemented in stock... but I am sure Squad have noticed which mods that are more than average popular. Until then, ScanSat will be one of those mods you'll need.

IMO there should be something like this in stock.

Probably working in the same way as the Orbital Ore survey but using a different part naturally. The 'Narrow Band' version could show better accuracy and anomalies too.

When the first preview images of the narrow band scanner were shown, I originally thought it was for scanning the planets' heights. I was pretty disappointed that it just shows ore deposits with more accuracy.

The narrow band scanner does show terrain height, it's just usually hidden behind the resource map.
