Is there an Out-Of-Game craft editor?

I'm thinking about a thing that shows you your craft file as an outline.

And will let you swap out a part for another similarly-sized part. (replace a LF tank with an LFO tank)

I'm asking because it seems pretty straightforward. And if it doesn't exist, I think I could write one.

Other features could be:

Find and Remove all struts/fuel lines.

Fix broken symmetry in command groups

Actually the VAB just needs a "hierarchy view"

With some work someone might be able to implement a stand alone unity-based tool to edit a craft visually outside of the entire KSP package. An outline-style would be more realistically doable though. I know that other tools in the past have been able to parse the craft files and/or the persistence file to offer a "directory structure" type view for each part/scenario/module present in the appropriate file/node. I can't remember any names though, and they'd all be older than "Jeb's stash of snacks in the basement" in kerbal terms. For reference, he started hoarding snack boxes when the KSC was a wooden shack with a rocket nose-cone sticking out of the roof.

Come to think of it, there was a fire that destroyed that building. No connection could be made with the recent rocket launch from within that building could ever be discovered by investigators though.

Anyway, it's all doable, just not all that "easy" in any form of the word. Part replacement would definitely be an awesome feature. I find myself wanting to swap out wheels for different models all the time and with the relatively newer offset editors it becomes very easy to fix positioning issues from differently shaped parts.

I haven't tried mass construction but I think I saw somewhere you just put more Kerbal near the part based on it's weight.

Ahem. I believe Mesomorph means "out-of-game" like in "not running KSP" like in "other program" like in "totally not launching game at all".

I didn't say easy, I said straightforward.

Reading a text file into a database, processing it, and outputting a similar text file, is sorta what I do for a living, for like the last, oh, 25 years.

so if it doesn't exist, I think I could write one.

don't suppose there could be a mobile or web version? I'd like the idea of designing simple ships and rockets when I'm out, and flying them when I get home (even if the flexibility of part placement would be more limited than in the full editor)
